The entire exhaust system was replaced; however, the rust spread to other parts, like the frame and a hole developed on the passenger side floor. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed of a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 07V527000 (engine and engine cooling) and the manufacturer was contacted. My check engine light came on and I took it to a precision dealer in my neighborhood. Precision told me that the part affected (catalytic converter) had been recalled by Nissan and the dealer would fix it for free. When I went to the dealer, I was informed that even though the part was recalled for some cars, my particular VIN number was not covered. I also called up Nissan consumer affair and they said that the recall did not apply to my car. I had to pay the price for repair myself. When I researched online, I saw tons of complaints by people for a faulty converter that Nissan failed to honor. I am filing an official complaint because I think that if Nissan knows that a part of theirs is under re-call for certain vins and other drivers are also experiencing similar problems, they should also get their part recalled.

The "service engine soon" light came on and went off for a few weeks finally I took it to the shop. I was told that is the catalyst converter, the part alone cost around $600, car is a 2005 Altima 2.5 with $120,000 miles, well maintained. After searching the internet I have come to realize that this a common problem with this model. I just spent over $300 to repair the crankshaft as my vehicle would stall and not start all the time. On top of it all I was also just told that I need to replace the inner tie rod - another $300 - this car is turning out to be a pile of junk.

My vehicle a 2005 Altima isn't starting properly, I brought it to the dealer where I bought it and they said I have a crankshaft sensor failure, this means the car could shutdown at any moment while I'm driving it!!! luckily I didn't cause any major accidents so I called Nissan about this problem, they said my car isn't coverage under this recall # 07V527000. Shame on Nissan!!! I spend $255.45 out of my own pocket to get this problem fixed!!!

Car has 77,000 miles on it. The check engine light came on. Codes were read it is the crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor seems the only recall for this was the crank position sensor that was reprogrammed, not replaced. There seems to be thousands of complaints on this issue. It seems a recall needs to be done on replacing the sensor not just reprogramming.

Warning light came on "service engine soon", took it to dealer I was told that is the catalyst converter, cost around $800, car is a 2005 Altima 2.5 with $110,000 miles, purchased new and well maintained. Was told by Nissan worker and also from different people and the internet that this a common problem with this model. Car arbitrarily stalled and cut off at low speeds and began to also jerk intermittently as if attempting to shut down while traveling at highway speeds...easily this could lend to a collision!!! service engine soon indicator illuminated on dash and has remained lit. Dealer reprogrammed ECM only for stalling and jerking to continue, and service engine soon indicator to re-illuminate within 24-hours of initial "fix." Also of note, dealer repairman noted that P0420 was diagnosed stating that the catalyst system is failing and engine may need to be replace depending on oil consumption level to be determined after 1000 miles driven. Canadian recall campaign code: R86 calls for P0335 kgb sensor to be replaced by dealer whereas niacin North America's only "corrective" action is for dealers to reprogram the ecma free of charge--which, consequently, does not remedy the problem--and instead attempts to divert the computer from diagnosing the problem--a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Catalytic converter failure (and related engine failure) covered per the federal emissions warranty until 80,000 miles.
