I just noticed pieces of rusted steel and flooring material falling out from under the car. Upon further inspection a large hole in the drivers side floor was discovered.after lifting up the carpeting. I did a temporary fix using a metal baking sheet to cover the hole by caulking it in place and securing it to the floor with sheet metal screws. WILL NISSAN EVER DO A RECALL ON THIS? APPARENTLY HUNDREDS OF OWNERS OF SIMILAR CARS ALL HAVE THIS PROBLEM..

I GOT LOOKING UNDER MY CAR AND NOTICED IT WAS RUSTING REAL BAD. IT'S A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THERE'S A BIG HOLE IN THE FLOOR. THIS COULD CAUSE MORE DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF MY CAR FROM RAIN AND ANIMALS AND IS UNSAFE. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND IT'S SOON TO BE UNSAFE FOR THEM TO RIDE WITH ME. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO A VEHICLE AND THINK THAT NISSAN SHOULD MAKE IT RIGHT. I HONESTLY LOVE MY CAR BUT IF IT CAN'T BE MADE RIGHT I THINK I'LL JUST GO GET A CHEVY OR TOYOTA AND NEVER OWN ANOTHER NISSAN VEHICLE. THANKS FOR HEARING ME OUT.

my 2006 nissan altima drivers side floor is completely rotted out this is a $2500.00 fix and i have no choice to fix it or to get a new car if rust hits the frame of car i can't afford to get a new car and i have to to barrow money to fix this problem. Just discovered that my 2006 Nissan Altima has completely rotted on the front left driver and on the front right passenger and it is a hole in the floors car. Decided to research if there were any recalls with this issue and discovered there had been hundreds of complaints and Nissan refuses to recall this issue. And all of the other models in the same time frame did not have this defect!!!! So..... what's the problem Nissan!!!! I will never purchase a Nissan again if they don't resolve this issue! It is very danger to drive this car, because it can happen to me something very bad.

Over the last month I started noticing something falling off the bottom of my car while on the highway and noticed some material hanging under my car on the front passenger side. I looked under the car and saw the floor board had rusted and huge hole in the floorboard. The only thing between the passenger and the ground is the carpet. My daughter sits there and we had no idea of the danger! Apparently what was falling of my car were pieces of the rusted floorboard and now there is a gaping whole in the floor.
Nissan needs to be held responsible for this as this is a defect and safety hazard.

I would have never noticed the holes rusting in my floorboards. I am sure the mechanics had seen this working on the car and never mentioned it because it was under warranty, But I happen to be waxing the car which is in excellent shape with 52,000 miles and noticed a piece of rusty metal under the car. Wow I looked under and there it was a hole and on the driver side all rusty. Poor design gets me and poor quality. I will be discussing with dealer but I think it futile. I will be looking to make a change; a long time Nissan purchaser moving to another product. Especially if I don't get the problem fixed.

My drivers floorboard is almost gone!! Rusted, gone, carpet showing, I am literally on my way to becoming Fred Flintstone here. I also have now the lovely odor of mildew due to my carpet being exposed to water, rain etc...the fact that Nissan feels there is no defect is asinine!!!

the whole drivers underside of car is gone. My husband could have been killed. Now the car is worthless. Nissan knows about this and refuses to recall to fix. I'm trying to find a class action suite against them to join.

I originally noticed this problem in 2011 when I was under the 100,000 mile mark. I brought it to the dealership, where they informed me there was nothing they could do, that the "bumper to bumper warranty" does not cover rust. Here it is now 2015 with 133,000 miles on my car and it is now undriveable, it is something I should have had replaced before but I kept putting it off since I was having other issues with the car that I had to pay to have fixed in order for it to run. It is a design flaw in this year model, you can tell the water was pooling in the panels and rusting from the inside out.

So Nissan is saying that this isn't a problem? 9 years old and both the driver side and passenger side have completely rusted floors, mostly garaged too. The salt from winter isn't the problem, it's happening in places with no snow...My sister has the same Nissan and she was shocked to find out her floor was completely rusted out in the same exact spots as mine. If it was the salt, wouldn't it be everywhere else underneath and not those same exact spots? The cost is outrageous to have fixed, more than the car is worth. I know Nissan isn't doing anything about it, but there has to be something I can do...right?

Found out from my mechanic when I had an oil change that the floor board was completely rusted out under driver and passenger seat. I was told by the auto body place this is a common problem with the Nissan Altima and there have been many complaints.

I noticed this problem starting years ago and have been waiting and waiting for Nissan to issue a recall. What started as a small hole is now a gaping one and I can literally stick my hand through and touch carpet. Rusting out is occurring on both the driver's and passenger side. There is simply no way I can drive this car through another New England winter in this condition. If Nissan won't call it a safety issue, why won't they admit it's a design flaw and agree to fix it??

This is my forth NISSAN over the past 40 years .The first flinstone was a DATSON, then two Sentras, now an Altima. All of them rust buckets.

2006 Nissan Altima! All cost issues with different sensors, suspension, rust of driver side, bezel panel cracks. Horrible!
