About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I bought my Altima new in 2006. I have had the car for 2 years and have had to have the struts replaced 3 times and just recently a tie rod. I have 30,000 miles on the car and have never missed any general maintenance. I worry that the car is not safe.

: the contact stated when driving 40 mph, the steering wheel pulled to the right. When taken to the service dealer, the tires were rotated and balanced. Also, the front end was aligned. The steering problem continued, but pulled to the left and was more difficult to control. The vehicle was then taken to the sales dealer. All tires were replaced and balanced, and the alignment was inspected. The sales dealer informed the contact the problem had to do with the wrong sized tires that were mounted on the vehicle, although the tires were mounted on the vehicle by the sales dealer, when the contact purchased the vehicle. The problem continued to pull to the right. When the vehicle was driven at 60 mph, the steering wheel locked up, then by giggling the steering wheel to the left and right, the steering unlocked and pulled to the right. The vehicle was taken back to the service dealer and the manufacturer was notified. Updated 02/12/07.
