Altima ES 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My 2010 Nissan has left me stranded numerous times and in the WORST POSSIBLE places and times, not to mention the time and cost I have to absorb every time it locks me out. It's unbelievable to me that Nissan has done nothing about relaying the information regarding an extended warranty to cover the recognized defect or done a recall. It is currently no longer starting. All previous instances I have managed to get it to start a day or two later. It has been sitting for 4 days now and I have to pay, yet again, to have it towed for repairs. This is a pervasive problem and Nissan should back up their product.

The car just won't start. The battery is holding a charge. The key thing was working at first when I inserted it into the port but after a couple of hours that didn't work either. This car did this to me before in June...2 months after I bought it. Miraculously, it began starting just fine and so I didn't think anything of it. Now, it just won't start. I need my car for work...I'm really mad...I bought this car in April.....I've had this car 5 months!!!! I'm a teacher and I need my darn car to work!!

Altima SL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The 1st time this happened the car was 2 days old. It happened again when I was setting up my blue-tooth in my garage. Had the battery on for maybe 10 minutes, so battery shouldn't have warn down that fast. It has happened 3 times on the coldest days of the year. I go out & know instantly it's going to happen because the brake pedal won't push down. Then, I can't get in the trunk because all the electric parts are down & there's no place to put a key. I have to wait for my husband to get there to jump it & sometimes it won't even take a jump.

The dealer has replaced the battery for free 3 times & they keep saying they don't know why it's happening. They said the last time that if it happens again they will call in a Nissan Specialist to diagnose it. I bought this car with 10 miles on it, so this shouldn't be happening.

Altima SL 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,100 miles

Apparently this is an issue with many of the 2010 Altima's. The push button will allow every thing in the car to turn on (lights, radio, etc) but the engine will not start. I began to experience this issue in June 2014, less than 6 months after I purchased it used. It was very sporadic over the last year so I never had it looked at. However, the past 2 weeks it has occurred daily making me late for work and a court appearance. Very irritating. I am concerned for my safety. Who is to say my car won't just stop running in the middle of the highway doing 70MPH??? Nissan needs to do a safety recall on this issue NOW.

I drove to my physical therapy appointment and car wouldn't start. I tried it several times and figured that it might be the battery and turned everything off in the car. After trying it several times, it finally started. Went to get groceries after that and when I came out of the grocery store, I had the same problem. I had to call my emergency roadside assistance # for a jump start and was able to get home. Took it in to my trusted local mechanic and he tested my battery. He said my battery was bad and replaced it for a total bill of $152.

Went to drive to my physical therapy a week later and I have the same problem: car won't start and the brake will only let me press it down about halfway. I let it sit about 2 hours and then it started. My mechanic is booked up, so he suggested I call the Nissan service center. I described the problem to them and they said it was a bad brake switch. I'm planning on taking it in to the service center tomorrow, It sounds like a lot of Nissans are having this same problem.

I think Nissan needs to address this problem.

brake switch & subharness short ABS/vdc/slip light on

I went to the gas station late at night and after pumping gas tried to turn the car on and it wouldn't start. I pushed the ignition several times and nothing. Maybe after 20 tries, it finally started up but was lagging and would jump to accelerate. I drove home and parked it. The next day early afternoon, the car wouldn't start again. This time the tire pressure, ABS, VDC and SLIP light were illuminated. It took a good 15 tries before it would start. It was a weekend so trying to find a mechanic that would check it out was impossible (as it was after 2 pm). I tried to drive it to a late mechanic and it started making a wind-tunnel noise. The lights all stayed on. Once at the mechanic he briefly checked and said it would need to be put on a machine on a regular business day (since they were closing). I tried starting the car again and nothing. The pedal for the break was completely locked. I spent an hour sitting there waiting for it to be released. It was raining and I was now stuck in the rain with my child waiting. Once at home I turned the car off and it would not restart. This morning same routine of attempts. Finally starts and the back windows roll down but do not come back up. We are now driving in the rain in 48 degree whether (my daughter and I) with windows that refuse to come back up. Drive to mechanic 10 miles away, puts it on the diagnostic machine--no codes returned. He suggested we take it to the dealer. I do-- I'm charged $120 just for diagnostic again. Says it will take all day to figure out the problem. I get a rental $28.00. He calls back and says the brake switch and sub harness are shorted out, they need to be replaced. The parts are about 600 for one 372 for another and 340 to install. Highway robbery. 1432 total :(
