Altima SL 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

The CVT transmission started shifting hard a few months ago. Then about a month ago the transmission started slipping. I exited the freeway and came to a light. Turned left and was in the middle of the intersection when the car would not go. I was nervous and pushed then pumped the gas and the car would not go. Then out of the blue it took off with out my foot on the gas.

I had the transmission fluid changed. Then a few weeks latter I was driving 75 (speed limit) with cruise control on then the car started loosing power, 65, 60, 55. I accelerated the car and it just would not go faster. I was able to stop it with the cruise at 55. With flashers on could have been killed.

Started my research and found that Nissan has extended the warranty by doubling it from 5 years/60,000 to 10 years/120,000 miles. My issue is my car is only 6 years old with 128,000 miles and Nissan has my car in their shop and will not fix it.

Altima 2.5 S 2.5L 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 75,400 miles

My problem isn't quite the same as everyone else's (although that particular problem has happened once to me too), but this has been a recurring issue. Earlier this month I was travelling on the freeway for about an hour and a half to get to my grandpa's funeral. I got off the freeway and stopped at a red light. When my light was green again, I tried to accelerate and it wouldn't move. It only started to move when I pushed the gas down as far as it would go, and even then it was crawling. After about 20-30 seconds of putt-putting through the intersection, the car decided it wanted to go fast again, and off it went, and the VDC OFF and SLIP lights came on. After that it wouldn't shift to a gear any higher than fourth. I ended up pulling over, turning the car off, waiting for a minute, and starting the car again, and it ran normally again. I tried to get it looked into, and the mechanic tried to replicate the problem, but couldn't.

Altima 2.5S 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 18,641 miles

This has been a huge concern to me due to safety issue. My vehicle is currently only at 44,000 KM and been acting up since 30,000 KM . A few other Altima coupe owner has brought to my attention, that there is currently an investigation on our vehicle's Transmission as there has been many complaints submitted regarding to the same issue. To have a faulty transmission is a very serious concern during highway driving to my family and i. A Altima coupe forum member recently had a faulty transmission and was involved a huge accident due to unexpected decrease in acceleration on the highway. I Have spoke to many senior mechanic at many local nissan dealership but was told that there is an ongoing investigation but we are not fully cover at this point until a recall is officially announced ? To me that pretty absurd as this is an ongoing issue that dates back for a very long time now and it has been a world wide problem for Altima coupe owners. Huge safety problem. A dealership try to scare me off by telling me cause i had minor modification my vehicle that Nissan will not validate my warranty. They tried to tell me that if i just had aftermarket wheels my warranty is voided. How on earth does wheels cause a transmission to become crap. I understand in the state there a law that does not allow car company to void our warranty unless the problem is cause directly from the aftermarket or modification product. All i know is if i get into a huge accident due to this acceleration problem. My lawyer will file a law suite against nissan the next day.

Altima 2.5L, 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,500 miles

I HAVE OWNED many Nissans in my life time both my wife and I. I currently drive a Nissan Altima 2010 4cyl due to the fuel usage and cost in of fuel in SOCAL. in over 20 years of owning Nissans I have NEVER had any complaints till now. My 2010 Altima loses power in the Transmission during hot days when I travel from SOCAL to NORCAL, its so embarrassing. When I have to pull off to the slow lane and the then the slow lane is honking at me to get off the HWY. So I am forced off the HWY turn off the car for about 30 min to cool down, so I can continue my travel. Due to the cooling system or lack of a cooling system in this vehicle I take NO pride in driving my Altima anymore.

I have owned an Altima(s) in the past, Quest, Armada (BEAST) loved it, but a gas hog, and Maxima(s) in 20 years of buying cars, but dam this problem. Nissan should have a re-call for this design issue, or at least come up with a solution for there Loyal costumers.

Altima 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

Returning home after an 7 week, 12,000 mile vacation. Car lost all pickup and would have trouble pulling up a hill on the interstate. The check engine light indicated a transmission problem. We made it into Panama City to a dealership there. My car had 110,000 miles and I thought it was out of warranty, but the service manager said that on that transmission Nissan had extended the warranty to 120,000 because of prior problems.

It started on a Friday, we were told that they would fill out a online form and the part would be in Monday... Monday came and we were told that they did not ship it on Saturday so the new transmission would be in Tuesday.

Tuesday we were told that it SHOULD be in by this Friday (they sent the one they thought we would get to another dealership) and they may have it ready for Saturday. Otherwise we would be looking at another weekend in Panama City.

We are stuck in Panama City spending money on Hotel Rooms. It will cost us over $1,600 plus for hotel, plus food and rental car. After $385 rental car bill they agree to loan me one of their cars.

Altima LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

Driving on the freeway going with the flow of traffic on a HOT (107degrees) day. All of a sudden car starts to slow down and will not accelerate. The traffic behind me was not slowing down and I need to get to the slow lane and then off the road without getting hit.

This has happened a few times off and on over the last few months. but I guess since this was such a hot day it was much more drastic. It happened a few times on this work trip as I traveled.

I dropped it off at the dealer that I bought the car from this is when I was told this was a global issue. I was told this was a safety feature for the car. I do not think it is a safety feature for the human in the car. I could of been killed. 2010 model does not have a fan to cool the transmission fluid but has been redesigned in the new models.

WHY would there not be a RECALL?????? My car has been in the shop for over 2 weeks and I am being told that the part is due in another 2 weeks. over 680 of them (Parts) on back-order.

I am having to pay for the rental car so I can travel for work and am being told it will cost over $1100 for the repair that I am to pay for. I would like to know why NISSAN is not recalling this model if this is an ongoing issue. If you look on line you will see many of these type of stories.
