My transmission started jerking when going up hills and such about 6 months ago. We found out about a recall to reset the computer connected to the CVT transmission. We took it, and it was doing fine until Saturday, it started acting like it was trying to jump into overdrive while going 40 miles an hour on no incline. It's been getting worse which is actually feeling rougher this time around than before the computer reset.

Went to a mechanic to change the oil. The mechanic told me get the transmission fluid changed everytime you do an oil change. I had 68k on the car and mechanic gave a sincere apology that I owned one of these Altimas. Came to this website. Called the service department at Peoria Nissan and was told to change oil and transmission fluid together with every oil change. $329.00 for CVT fluid. Also dealer said he had seen the transmissions on a 2014 Altima get 80-90k before it blew. That's a 4-7k repair folks!
I totally freaked out that these cars are defective. Since I was at 68k I bought a 2018 Hyundai Elantra today. 8 days after I found out that these Altimas are equipped with a CVT. Trade in value wasn't good because the car is a "rubber "band" transmission I was told at Hyundai. But you know what.
The 2018 has ZERO recalls except a moon-roof in the GT trim. Wish me luck. Couldn't deal with the extreme safety issues of stalling on the highway and causing injury to me or another person. If you really want a CVT Nissan go out and buy a luxury car. The CVT was a huge mistake for me. It was my 4th Nissan. 274K on a 1999. No way this car can get even close.

BELOW IS THE EMAIL I SENT TO THE ATTORNEY'S REPRESENTING THE PLAINTIFF'S IN BATISTA, ET AL. VS. NISSAN, SEEKING REPRESENTATION FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT:
I came across your information in connection to the class action lawsuit of Batista, et al. v. Nissan while searching for information on counsel who I could speak to regarding another possible class action lawsuit against Nissan. I have a 2014 Nissan Altima that is nearing the end of the powertrain warranty; I took my car in last week for vehicle recalls and explained to them the problems that I have been experiencing with what I believe to be the CVT transmission. I explained how the car will shudder between 10-25 mph spontaneously and that there was no surefire way to know what was causing it or when it would happen; I explained that there have been a handful of occasions where I am at a stop and press on the gas pedal to drive and the car barely moves which has almost caused an accident on at least two separate occasions - another incident that happens spontaneously; and lastly, I explained how the rpm's will rev and the transmission would stick.
The first day that Nissan had my car, they said it acted up, but they couldn't get it to do it again and no codes came back to reveal the problem. After day 2, they said there was nothing more they could do regarding the issues I complained about. When I went to pick up my car, the service manager said he believes it is my transmission and wanted to replace it, but he couldn't because there is no code coming back to show the problem and they couldn't get the car to act up again. I explained my concerns about driving this car, the safety of my children and how the warranty was about to expire in less than 500 miles; he said they have it documented in the system and if something happens after the warranty expires, they would "go to bat" for me. This isn't good enough in my opinion and clearly appears to be an issue with Nissan and the CVT transmissions.
After picking up my car that day, I went a step further and filed a complaint with the consumer affairs department at Nissan (last Friday). Today, I received a call from Amanda, the case manager for our region (Case number 27815853). I have that phone call recorded. She was anything but helpful; indicated that unless the part fails, there is nothing that they can or will do. When my fiance got on the phone and expressed his concern for our safety in driving the car, he proceeded to tell her he was documenting this call and recording it, and Amanda freaked out advising us to stop recording now or she would terminate the call. We did not stop recording as it is our right to do so in the State of Ohio as long as we are part of the conversation, not to mention they state that the call may be recorded or monitored for quality assurance. After she hung up on us, we tried to call back and now we cannot reach anyone. In my search for answers, I saw over 752 complaints of other Nissan Altima owners complaining of the same exact problems with the car and results in dealing with Nissan.

I TOOK MY CAR IN TO GET FIXED BC IT WAS SHUTTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND THEY "REPROGRAMMED THE CVT". WHEN I GOT IT BACK IT WAS WORSE THAN BEFORE, WOULDNT SHIFT, STOPPED AT STOP LIGHTS AND NOW ITS BACK IN THE SHOP! EVEN WORSE THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP DIDNT SAY ANYTHING TO ME ABOUT THE RECALL WHICH IS JUST RIDICULOUS AND DANGEROUS!!!

Took the car in today to reprogram the CVT. I found it in the Nissan's recall page posted on Dec. 8th, 2016. Can't find any comments anywhere on the web about this recall/fix/CVT reprogramming. Wondering if anyone who had CVT transmission issues has had the CVT reprogrammed. Check your vin on Nissan's recall Web page. Anyone notice any improvement? I was having some issues but not that major. It did make noise occasionally and would seem to be in the wrong gear. I will update this post when I evaluate the car.
