Altima

  • CVT transmission
  • 69,500 miles

Bought the car a used one at around 32,000 miles Not long after I would say a month a two the transmission "stalled" I went to apply the gas to make a left-hand turn and the car did not respond in the "normal" way thank goodness I gave myself enough time because there was a car coming and it could have been disastrous.

The next day the car drove completely fine and I thought maybe it was something weird like the air conditioner was on so it was a one-off... through the years it would happen on occasion only after I was driving more during the day than usual but I rarely did this so I wasn't overly concerned. Then the beginning of this month it started to do this even more frequently and then just completely would not change gears while driving on the freeway this was accompanied by the CVT MALFUNCTION alert on my dash I drove myself and my 3-year-old home and called the shop the next morning everything was fine. No warning, no delay in transmission shifting no over-revving.

2 days later I was able to get it to Nissan. they said they could see that there were instances when it got too hot but they couldn't recreate it. after a week my husband had to go and pick up the car to drive around for an hour to show them what was going on finally he got it to recreate the problem. there answer TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT for $5,500 after a discount. They insisted that surely Nissan would pay for this since it was obvious it was faulty and only slightly outside of the warranty NIssan said NO., not their problem so we were expected to pay $5,500 to repair the transmission and the car itself is only worth $12,000 at best.

This does not even address the other issues like the Apple care play that only works sometimes and the fact that I have to change my key fob battery so often I carry a pack in my purse to change them about once per month (both other known issues with this car). at the end we are currently looking for a way to eat the negative equity I have to carry on this mistake and get something else NEVER ANOTHER NISSAN

cvt malfunction

I was driving on the highway on August 16 about 12 midnight. I was cruising around 75mph and the car shut off on me while driving. I tried to start it back and a warning light showed up on the dash and said cvt malfunction. The car would not start back up and I had to pay 2 tow trucks to get the car home. When it did get to the house I had to push the car down the block into driveway because it still wouldn't start. The next day I spoke to Nissan and they sent a tow truck to pick up the car. The car had to be towed from Queens, NY to Jersey City, NJ at Hudson Nissan. Nissan said it might be a computer/sensor problem.

I'm currently still waiting for my car to be fixed and returned to me. I was pretty upset because I bought the car brand new and its only 3 months old with 4,000 miles. I think it's unacceptable Nissan is selling a car with a major issue like this. This car is a lemon.
