Altima Hybrid S 2.5L

This is the 2nd unit to fail in the same car. The original unit failed at about 40,000 miles and was replaced under warranty. Now the factory replacement failed too. Clearly bad design, and clearly they know it. I just busted the gear set off of it and bypasses the micro switches. This made me late for work and gave me a nice cut on my knuckle.

The first steering lock went out in of September 2014. This was covered under warranty and "replaced" according to the paperwork that I received. A year and three months later the second went out on my car. I was told that this part was not covered and I would be responsible for the repair. I find it very ironic that the first steering lock at least lasted five years and the replacement part that NISSAN claims to have put in my car only lasts for a bit over a year. Something with this picture is seriously wrong. There are You-Tube temporary fixes for this steering lock failure to at least get you rolling again. But seriously, the new part that was to replace a faulty part fails faster than the original. This is completely ludicrous and leaves me wondering if they even replaced the steering lock part at all. Dealerships are infamous for saying that they did even when they didn't and charging it under the warranty. I am completely flabbergasted at how this could even occur and obviously the new parts are more defective than the old ones!!!!

Brought in car to be given major service since handing it over to son for his use. Key fob light goes on as we pull up, then get call that this ESCL needed to be replaced. This particular part had been noted as problem back in 2010 at least, and Nissan acknowledged it but instead of recall it put on extended warranty coverage for 72 months (unlimited mileage). No notice sent to owners as far as we can tell. Since we purchased car in August 2009, we were two months out of warranty and we were charged. (Note: deal replaced part, but replacement was defective, so they replaced replacement which was (ironically) under warranty.

It is clear that Nissan knew of this defect, failed to notify owners, and (despite fact that we own 4(1) Nissans) refuse to compensate for what is clearly a defect in original parts. Dealer shrugs off problem -- not their problem -- and Nissan customer service refuses to do the right thing....

[Side note: unrelated to this, we had arranged to extend the warranty a few days before, but brought inn vehcle for service before formalizing the extension.]
