About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The vehicle will start having erratic rpms, hesitation to accelerate, engine rpms will not go above 2000-2500 or below 1000-300 without severe hesitation, then sometimes it will just completely shut down everything no matter if stopped at a light or driving highway speeds. Total loss of vehicle control happens... no brakes, power steering, no acceleration. Every light turns on on dash and if your driving at the time you better hope that you can quickly throw it in neutral, crank the engine at least 2-4 times before it'll start up, then kick it back in drive to gain control of the vehicle again so you can pull over somewhere safe before you get into a serious wreck. Taking it to Nissan was pointless since after you get the Armada restarted, it doesn't retain any codes that the dealership can use to diagnose the problem nor can the mechanic replicate the issue on test drives. At which point I look like I'm the crazy one, then they send me off on my way with no answers. The only other problem that the Armada had long before this problem, during it, and currently is a cracked exhaust manifold which, too, is apparently a very common issue that plagues other Armadas which Nissan refused to acknowledge as a very common problem and issue a recall. This issue is hard to support with pics or documents since it almost always occurs while the vehicle is in motion so you're too occupied trying not to kill yourself or others on the road and when you do go to Nissan there no codes to pull since I guess the vehicle erases it after the complete loss of power. Feels like I'm chasing my tail...

I am writing as a follow up to a news article out today that talks about how cracks in Ford exhaust manifolds are making vehicle owners/drivers/passengers sick through poisoning gases entering the cabin: Https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-Ford-Explorer-owners-say-SUVS-making-them-sick/ this is not the only vehicle with this very serious problem. There are very serious problems with the Nissan Armada/titan exhaust manifolds cracking and emitting toxic gases, from 2004 on up. These vehicles, equipped with a 5.4L engine, are highly susceptible to exhaust manifolds cracking and exhausting gas. This exhaust gas can easily make it's way into the vehicle passenger compartment, and cause sickness, dizziness, nausea, or possibly even death from CO2 poisoning. The problem so bad on these vehicles, that aftermarket companies have for many years now started making exhaust manifolds that have reinforcements welded onto the areas of the stock manifold that regularly incur these cracks. The job is extensive, however, and many vehicle owners cannot afford these repairs. Many vehicle owners likely don't know what is making them sick. Here are some videos/forums that explain the much needed recall: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?V=1V7F2sx6B64 https://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-problems-dealer-service/130198-exhaust-manifold-recall.html https://www.clubarmada.com/forums/8-engine-drivetrain/22309-cracked-exhaust-manifold.html https://www.carcomplaints.com/Nissan/titan/2004/exhaust_system/exhaust_manifolds_cracked.shtml https://www.justanswer.com/Nissan/5J40C-Nissan-Datsun-Armada-SE-2006-Nissan-Armada-just.html https://www.clubtitan.org/forums/13-general-discussion/63695-exhaust-manifold-recall-3.html https://repairpal.com/Nissan/titan/recalls

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Armada. While driving 50 mph and approaching a stop light, the vehicle stalled and the check engine and other unknown warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and when the gear shifter was placed in drive, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the crankshaft position sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.

The radiator released transmission fluid all over my driveway, it was mixed with the coolant and now my gears are stripped. There were recalls about this on the 2005-2010 Armadas but when I even went to key in the type of vehicle I have, it isnt recognized. There are no recalls on my car, please research.

10/28/09 right manifold and catalytic converter cracked between 3rd and 4th runners at 56K, 9/28/10 left side cracked at 67K. Both replace under warranty. 03/16, 135K kept complaining of exhaust in cab and being light headed. Brought to mechanic, right side is cracked again! I care for and Transport our 2 year old granddaughter while our son is in the military and can't believe this isn't considered a manufacturer defect due to the safety issue. Have always had Nissan, love to get another one but not if Nissan doesn't back their product.

My Armada shuts off while driving down the road. When it does the steering goes and the brakes won't work. I bought got rear ended trying to get off the road when it happened the first time. This is a very dangerous problem. I just got this about 6 months ago. I looked up and seen recalls on this problem but I put my VIN number in and it says there is none for my car. If it has been fixed prior to my ownership then its went out again. And again thats not good. This could get someone killed! esp if I was driving on interstate. I couldn't get out of way of traffic.

Traveling up a slight hill at about 20 mph the vehicle started losing power. The engine died resulting in a loss of power steering. I put the vehicle in park and shut off the ignition. I had no power and no power steering. After about a minute I tried and successfully started the vehicle. It attempted to die again, but I revved the engine and kept it running. It was frightening to think what would have happened if we were on a highway at 70 mph and lost power. In my opinion this is a dangerous situation. Thankfully the incident was on a county road with no traffic as we had two of our grandchildren in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Cracked exhaust manifold identified. Dealer took 2 months after requesting a trip to the dealership (200 miles rt) to deny any responsibility because vehicle is over 8 years new. Been cracked for years and they knew its age before requesting an inspection. We were told by dealership to be wary of exhaust leaking into the cabin.

Transmission has water damage due to faulty radiator. It appears coolant and transmission fluid chambers have been breached. After web research this is clearly a problem Nissan is aware of and should be addressing.
