The door pull for the front door is attached at either end by a piece of plastic. One day (out of warranty of course) I pulled the door to close it and ended up with the pull in my hand. Rather inconvenient.
Dealership remedy: New door panel, ~$850 in the box. They do not/will not sell individual parts. About an hour to replace. Loss of vehicle for a day.
My remedy: Found a door panel with a good pull from a junk yard. My son's friend never charged him for the panel. I replaced it on my own on a Saturday morning. Not a highly skilled job. Of course it took me much more time than a trained mechanic would have taken.
My estimate for two pieces of plastic: $20 each including shipping and handling.
My rant: Two pieces of aluminum would have been considerably stronger than the plastic.
