paint peeling paint peeling

This is BS! You spend good money on a cheap truck, not that those peeling spots are the only spots, there are more, but the transmission sucks too !! If you run into this problem contact Nissan and complain. Hopefully if we all say something they might recall it! This is the last Nissan I buy!

Frontier Nismo 4X4

Facts:

Paint peeling on left front quarter panel and engine compartment.

Feelings:

I just wanna die! As soon as you think you're getting ahead in life, stuff like this happens! I bought this 2005 Nissan Frontier Nismo 4X4 less than a year ago. It has been riddled with problems. As if the prospect of my tranny failing isn't enough, I found this this morning. I seriously just want to drive it off a cliff and I still owe 12K for it! I traded in a 10K Mini Cooper(paid off) because I thought the Mini would have more mechanical problems than a Japanese Nissan that are supposed to last 300K miles!

Moral of the Story:

Buy a Ford or Toyota!!!!!!

Purchased my 2005 Electric Blue 20005 for Lancaster Nissan. About 8 months after I purchased the paint on both fenders began to peel. Almost in identical locations. The paint is also peeling on the doors, gas tank area, and the roof. My truck looks like sh*t. When I first contacted the dealership, they asked for estimates. They agreed to pay to repaint my truck, until the saw the estimates. It will cost $4000 to repaint my truck. After they received the estimates they changed their tune. They suggest I pay to have the truck repainted and they will reimburse me $1000. The management at Lancaster Nissan believes they are going above what is required of them by offering reimbursing me $1000, because I purchased a used truck. They continuously fail to contact me when I wish to discuss the problem.

I was better off with my 2000 Frontier. Never again will I purchase a Nissan.

Update from Feb 6, 2012: Nissan NA finally made a decision on my truck. They won't pay to repair it or compensate me financially. They claim the issue is one of warranty not defective paint. Should half of your truck paint wear off in in less than 6 years? I don't think so.

They suggest I take Lancaster Nissan up on their offer of $1000 reimbursement, but, only after I spend $4000 to repaint it. How generous. Ha! Ha!

I took my Frontier to Bill Gatton Nissan in Bristol, TN and they sent me to their paint shop. The paint shop manager checked the problem and determined that the truck had never had any paint work and he told me that it was his opinion that it is a paint flaw. He called back to the Dealership and they said a Nissan Rep. would contact me. That never happened so I contacted Nissan America. Nissan America called a few times telling me they were looking into the problem. They said they were contacting Bill Gatton Dealership and I would probably have to take the truck back to them to look at it again. Finally on Sept. 14th Nissan America called and said since I bought the truck used and had never used a Dealership for service that they would not be doing anything about the paint. I have had all my service done locally due to an 80 mile round trip to nearest dealer. Other than paint peeling the truck is spotless because I have taken very good care of it. Why should not having service done by a dealer have anything to do with the paint? What else can they do to paint besides wash and wax it? I do that myself. If they won't take care of the problem I will not buy another Nissan.

Nissan dealer denied the paint peel problem was their responsibility, said it was due to a rock. Then Nissan USA also denied issue. This problem of paint peeling off in the exact same areas is well documented by multiple owners of Xterras and Frontiers 2005 and newer. Review more about this issue on clubfrontier.org.

Please contact me if are having the same issue and would like to join in having Nissan stand behind their substandard products. Never will I buy a Nissan product again.

Have 2005 Nissan Frontier paint starting to peel off truck. Took into dealership. They say its out of warranty. I had owned a 89 Chevy Silverado since new had the same problem after 5 years. Took back to dealership where I purchased it they repainted entire truck at no charge. This was Servco Waipahu Auto Company in Hawaii. I knew I should have bought that Toyota Tacoma from them. I park my truck in an enclosed garage & keep the paint in showroom condition. I could see if it looked all faded & oxidized. This is clearly a manufactures defect. This is also well documented if you search for paint peeling off Nissan frontier. Nissan doesn't stand behind there vehicles & has just lost a good customer. Will never buy another Nissan ever again.

I have an '05 Nissan Frontier "Electric Blue" color with a paint peeling problem. I watched my truck paint in the last four years just fall apart. I have complained to my dealership and they have just mis-treated as if the paint peeling is normal at first when the chipping was small. As you look at my pictures now that it totally not the case. Their is obviously a paint defect in the 05 electric blue paint. They hoped I would go away. I have found numerous complaints about this issue on-line just with the "Electric Blue" paint chipping and peeling. I have documented this issue with Nissan USA already and I awaiting their response.

I know there are other cases out there that Nissan shots down for any reason they can find. I am asking for any other cases to respond. Nissan seems to have a big problem that will not go away.

Stand up for what is right. I had ran into a case just miles away from my house with the same truck and same case. Keep fighting everyone, Nissan will have to listen...GM did in the mid 90s.

My truck is an advertisement on wheels and I will share my experience with all who ask.

Thank you for listening

The problem happened before the 36K warranty had expired, though I dragged my feet until 38K miles before reporting it. The dealer turned me away, but Nissan USA came through, restoring my belief in them. Clearly, there was some sort of defect in the paint because it was peeling off in chunks. Nissan USA sent me back to the dealer who sent me to their body shop. The body shop re-painted the fenders-- just like new.

A small corner of the tail gate is also peeling, but it seems to be limited to about a 1" square, which Nissan USA will not cover, but I am OK with that-- they took care of the major defect.
