This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Nissan dealer.
According to the Government's auto safety, the sending unit on my truck is an open call back and is not related to a vin number as Nissan uses as an escape goat for their design failures. This call back is to be repaired by Nissan at no expense to the owner of the vehicle. There is a failure with the design of the gas tank that seems to cause a restriction of the gas sending unit. This is a design problem and a safety issue that can cause death(s) by unknowingly running out of gas. The driver may think they have a full gas tank, while it may actually be close to empty. The driver can run out of gas in an intersection, on a railroad track, (and a train can be coming), or on the highway at 65 mph or more, (depending on the speed limit of the state), and a 18 wheeler truck can end up crashing into you now knowing that you have run out of gas.
When the engine loses power the powering steering will go out and that can cause the driver to run into other vehicles, because the driver has lost control.
The dealer sent me a mailer that shows they do repairs, change parts, etc. So they know my name, and address, BUT, they did not send me a call back on a more dangerous problem; that is, their is a relay that fails and the engine can just stop while driving. Guess what?, crash and burn probably to myself and others. The dealer will replace the relay; a simple unplug and insert a new one at no charge. They do not show a recall on my first and will not honor it, because as I said, my vin number is not the right number. this is BS and a flim- flam on the part of Nissan.
Ralph Nader proved in court that the Ford Pinto, (out of warranty or not), was a danger because if the vehicle got hit in the rear, the gas tank can and will explode.. I have expressed above all the dangers above of un-expectantly running out of gas. This is a safety issue, just like the Pinto and needs to be addressed by Nissan.
I expect that the Nissan rep has a sign at their desk that reads, "Just tell them no". Life and Health Insurance companies do the same thing, hoping that the customer will just go away. They always say no on the first run. Don't give up, and send all Nissan sites, better business bureau, etc, a bad Nissan review.
As they say in the sales world, "1 person tells 10, 10 tells a 100, and a 100 tell a thousand"....Reach a 1000!

It's really annoying after filling up your gas tank, your gas gauge will read empty and check engine light comes on
and stays on till the gauge starts working when tank is almost empty.

Bought this car in 2009 with 34,000 miles on it. After years of trouble free driving, I had the Fuel gauge sensor go bad. I dropped the fuel tank and replaced it myself.

Well I ran out of gas when the gauge told me I had 120 miles to go. The gauge stopped working with only 32000 miles. Took it to nissan they told me around $1000 to fix had to replace the fuel pump and sensor. Lucky I didn't have it fixed right away and about 6months later I got a letter saying the sensor was recalled. Turns out that they didn't have to replace the fuel pump, I ask him why the fuel pump wasn't replaced, They where like HUH why would it be, So I explained what they told me the last time I brought it here and they said it was a bad diagnosis. I'm glad I didn't pay the $1000 bucks to have it fixed. F-IN Crooks!

I am pretty disappointed in seeing a recall issued for the fuel sending unit for the 2006 Nissan Frontier, only to be told my vehicle, which has all the same problems as the recall is not under the campaign. So I get to go spend $500 plus for a new fuel pump, when Nissan knows that the one that they put in my truck is defective.
