The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. While the contact started the ignition, the "service engine" warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the fuel gauge displayed an accurate reading whenever fuel was dispensed into the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician informed that the fuel sensor would need to be replaced. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number 10V075000 (fuel system, gasoline: Storage: Auxillary tank). However, the VIN was excluded from the recall defect. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 70,000.

After the vehicle was repaired, the fuel gauge indicated that the fuel tank was half full but the tank was actually empty. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer twice and the fuel sender unit was cleaned. The failure did not occur prior to the recall repair. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the failure. The third time that the failure occurred the contact stated that he would take the vehicle back to the dealer with the understanding that the failed part would be replaced instead of cleaned. The failure mileage was 49,009. The current mileage was approximately 50,050.

The dealer dropped the fuel tank and replaced the sending unit as a remedy to the recall. Prior to the recall repairs, the contact had not issues within the vehicle. Following repairs, the fuel level indicator would not read accurate fuel levels. When filling the fuel tank, the fuel level indicator would remain on the empty position. The failure occurred sporadically following repairs. The failure mileage was 43,700 and the current was 44,000.

Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) notified Nissan of our vehicle having the recall problem with our 2006 Frontier xe. NHTSA campaign # 10V075000. Nissan states that our truck's VIN # is not included in the recall at this time. Check engine light is on and testing shows that the fuel level sensor circuit high input as the probable cause. We called Nissan at 800-647-7261 twice. Both times we were given a ref. # [xxx]. we never know how much gas we have...my husband just ran out today going to the store and the fuel gage showed that we had gas. Very frightening. Thank goodness he was not on the freeway!!!!!!

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The fuel lever sensor and gauge assembly were repaired at the owner's expense. The contact also filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000. The current mileage was 80,266. Updated 07/01/10 the consumer stated the problem was resolved and he was reimbursed. However, the timing chain had to be replaced. The consumer is seeking reimbursement. Updated 07/07/10.

The gas gauge indicated that the fuel tank was half full although it was empty. The contact was able to safely pull over to the side of the road and add fuel to the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where she was informed that the gasoline storage tank was the cause of the failure. She called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The manufacturer advised her that the vehicle was not included in recall 10V075000 (fuel system, gasoline: Storage: Auxiliary tank). The failure and current mileages were approximately 25,000. Updated 05/07/10. When the consumer took the vehicle to have another service performed she was told the work could not be done, because the check engine light was on. The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. On February 1, 2010 he noticed that the fuel sensor gauge failed to display the correct amount of fuel in the tank for twenty minutes. Whenever there was a half of tank of gasoline in the vehicle, the fuel gauge didn't register that amount. He contacted the manufacturer and was advised that his VIN was not included in recall 10V075000 fuel system, gasoline storage, auxiliary tank, but he should take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. A local mechanic diagnosed the failure and stated that fuel sensor caused the failure to occur; therefore, he refused to pay an additional diagnostic fee. The vehicle was not repaired and he will replace the vehicle if the manufacturer does not add his VIN to the recall. The failure mileage was 46,000 and the current mileage was 51,000.
