The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that after refueling to full capacity, the fuel level indicator provided an erroneous reading of empty. Also, the low fuel warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel sender float arm had made contact with an embossment that was molded in the tank shell, causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to fail. The contact was informed of a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 10V075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact that his VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 130,000. This vehicle is showing symptoms consistent with NHTSA safety recall campaign 10V-075 (2006 and 2008 Frontier fuel gauge inaccuracy) but according to Nissan this VIN is not eligible for the campaign. Symptoms include: Slow/erratic response of fuel gauge, inaccurate reading, ses light is now illuminated. This came on suddenly about two weeks ago. Contacted Nissan and they said vehicle is not eligible; their case # [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

2006 Nissan Frontier. Filled the gas tank and the gauge stayed on 1/4. when I drove the vehicle again, the gas tank gauge went up to 3/4, but I'm not certain if the 3/4 is accurate. This now happens on every gas fill up. Found a recall notice online (listed below). I called my local Nissan dealer and they indicated my VIN number is not part of the recall. I call Nissan, and they stated the same thing and informed me NHTSA decides what VIN number is part of the recall and it's out of Nissan's hands. And, volunteered they did not have contact information for NHTSA. Nice customer service. NHTSA, if I'm having similar issues to the recall, how do I get my VIN number added recall id # 80825 - fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank hide details recall date: Mar 03, 2010 model affected: 2006 Nissan Frontier summary: Nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 Frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. The molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. Consequences: This could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before March 22, 2010. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261. Potential units affected: 80689 notes: Nissan North America, Inc.

The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who confirmed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the VIN failed to qualify for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 10V075000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxiliary tank). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 112,000....updated 12/03/12 the consumer stated the failure occurred while traveling approximately 35 mph. The service engine soon light illuminated and the fuel gauge dropped to empty. The consumer stated he knew the vehicle had over a half tank of fuel. The consumer took the vehicle to his private mechanic, a local business and the state inspection facility and all three informed him an error code of P0463 fuel sending failure displayed. The consumer stated the vehicle had been giving false and erratic readings since August 2012 and on one occasion, he ran out of gas. The consumer discovered had recall had been issued. However, Nissan informed him, his vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. Updated 12/05/12

This complaint is in regards to NHTSA campaign # 10V-075. Summary of the issue we are having is the same as the one stated in the recall. Due to a problem with the fuel sender float arm, our fuel gauge is showing that the vehicle has about 1/4 of a tank when the fuel tank is empty. We took the Nissan Frontier to a dealer to get this problem fixed and that told us that they would not fix the problem for free (as stated would happen in the recall notice) because the vehicle had too many miles on it. They confusingly tried to describe that the issue was a warranty extension and not a recall. We then call Nissan national customer affairs and they confused things even more. I was told by a service rep manager that there was 2 service programs for the problem we were having. One was a "recall" that would be fixed without date or mileage limits. In this situation, the problem caused the fuel gauge to be stuck on full. The other was a "warranty extension" that had a date or mileage limitation. In this situation, the fuel gauge would be stuck at about 1/4 tank when the tank was really less than that or empty. This is completely inaccurate information regarding what is stated in this safety recall campaign. I was told by the national service rep manager that Nissan will not fix this problem under this recall campaign.

Consumer states problem with fuel gauge indicator the consumer stated he started having problems with the fuel gauge indicator and the engine light illuminated after getting gas. Also, the tire pressure monitoring light illuminated. A diagnostic test was performed and the consumer was informed the engine control module was on the recall list and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that he refueled the vehicle and proceeded to drive 70 mph when the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel level was empty and the low fuel level warning indicator was illuminated. In addition, the service engine soon light was illuminated. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge would only display accurate fuel levels when the fuel tank was approximately three-quarters full and would fail when the fuel tank was down to three eights of a tank. The failure began two months prior and the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the fuel level sensor would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. Fuel level sensor failure showing code P0463. This is very similar in nature to campaign id: 10V075000. Vehicle is 2006 Nissan Frontier SE crew cab. Happens frequently. (2 times in the last 700 miles for me). Check engine light comes on and fuel level drops to empty. Periodically comes up part way but totally unreliable. Requires estimating fuel level by odometer reading. Could cause vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of crash with loss of power steering and brakes when engine stalls.

The fuel gauge shows the vehicle has approximately 1/4 tank of fuel. It seems to stay there for some time, then after some mileage drops completely below empty, the fuel warning comes on solid (not gradual before this failure). All indications upon filling up is that the tank is close to empty. All indications appear to be identical with a similar recall for the same recall for the Nissan Frontier xe models both before and afterward in the 2006 model year. Mine manufactured 08/06. That recall is NHTSA campaign id number: 10V075000.

The fuel gauge displayed the incorrect amount of fuel that was in the fuel tank. 2006 Nissan Frontier's fuel gauge is sporadic. It will read 1/4 tank and then suddenly drop to empty and the low fuel light comes on. After filling, it may take an hours for the gauge to read full. Shortly after the problem started the service engine soon light came on. Computer error says error PO463 fuel level sensor circuit high input probable cause: This is a safety issue. From NHTSA campaign #10V075000: "this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic increasing the risk of a crash". Nissan dealer service tech. Told me this a big issue with many more vehicles than the recall (NHTSA camp. #10V075000) covers. I contacted Nissan to ask if they planned to expand the recall. They said no and declined to assist with even the part for the 500 part. From looking at numerous forums and this site. I can see that the are many owners in the same situation--a defective gauge and their vehicle not covered by the current recall(s). I don't know the statistics on what it takes to trigger an expanded recall but I hope NHTSA looks into it.
