This is a serious safety problem because of the suddenness of losing steering control! It was not only hard to steer - you could barely turn the wheels in any direction! All the more absurd is the truck only had 26,000 miles when this part failed. Despite the low miles on the truck when the parts failed, and the frequency of this problem, Nissan does not cover any cost of repairs. Totally and absolutely absurd. I have never, ever experienced a problem like this with any other new vehicle. Nissan has to be aware of this problem, since it appears to be a common occurrence. What is scary is the fact that I could have been driving down the freeway at 65 mph when this happened! Either the steering system is poorly designed or the parts are made in China! Cheap! I knew that Nissan's plastic interiors looked cheap but now I find they are using cheap, shoddy parts. No more; I will not purchase a Nissan product in the future!
To add insult to injury, one of their employees stole my quarters out of the center console - about $20-25 worth of coins used at car washes and to air up tires.

Lost power steering while driving nissan frontier truck steering was difficult, and sluggish at best, then within seconds following the loss of steering, the steering wheel became loose. I had 1/2-3/4 on an inch in play in all directions luckily did not get air bag deployment..took to independent garage immediately for diagnosis of problem that day. received call within 2 days later and was informed by the garage owner that the failure was due to the use of a substandard vendor part that had a poor design ........ a new replacement upper column and also have to have a new lower column as well which supersedes the original lower column........ and has to be purchased at an additional cost, in order to properly function. Unfortunately from what I have found and observed on this website and the government run NHTSA site, nothing has been done since 2005 and 2006 for frontier owners, as well as a few maxima, and several pathfinder owners also.........currently I will most likely seek legal counsel for advice about this obvious safety issue.
