When the clutch went out - the FIRST time - even though it was under warranty, and I had had it for less than a year after purchasing it new, Nissan cited "driver error" and refused to pay for it. I spent approximately $1,500 getting it fixed at the dealer. Mistakenly, in retrospect, I chalked it up to "live and learn" and concentrated on enjoying the new truck which I loved, btw. However, the clutch again went out again the SECOND time and then the THIRD time and yet again the FOURTH time in less than seven years, it was beginning to dawn on stupid me that I was a fool for spending thousands and thousands in repairs instead of demanding that they get it right the first time or at last admit that it was NOT "driver error." (Curiously, I had never had this problem with other prior manual transmissions and I am nothing even close to a novice driver). However, each time I foolishly expected that this would be the last one.

The last straw was that last week - just after making the long anticipated last payment and after having sent a couple of hundred bucks to the DMV to renew my registration, the truck threw a rod on the freeway and the engine is kaput - after only 110,000 mile. I ended up donating it to CarTalk for the tax write-off.

I don't know what to think. We have had several Nissans and experienced no major problems but I would think long and hard about getting another. We just got a Hyundai Sonata and are pleased with it but I need a truck and can't afford to get a new one or even a used one. I will be writing a letter of complaint to Nissan but to be honest I'm not expecting much even though it would be good policy for them to give me a major break on the cost of a new one or. better, give me a new vehicle!

First, a clutch shouldn't go out that quickly. Second, Dennis Dillon was terrible to work with. Third, they kept upping the amount we had to pay - added things after the initial quote. Fourth, they promised it for sure at the end of the day tuesday and we finally got it at the end of the day Wednesday. They acted like it was our fault that the clutch wore out and weren't interested in investigating to see if something else caused it. Fifth, their first quote, before I bargained, was $200 more than the final bid - was this going to be all profit. I sure hope this clutch works longer. Other places quoted less but would have taken until wednesday to fix....which it ended up being Wednesday anyway. Dennis Dillon is a rip off.
