I have complained to the dealer, the dealer said contact Nissan, because there was a recall on this item. called Nissan they refused to aknowledge it. this will be my last Nissan vehicle. too many repairs and no one cares once the sale is final.

As of 2 weeks ago, immediately after filling up, I noticed that the fuel gauge wasn't showing a full tank. I thought maybe the float was stuck and would work it's way loose. After a day, the "Service Engine" lite came on and the fuel gauge showed "E", like when the engine hasn't started. A search of the internet revealed this was a common problem on the Frontiers. While there could be several causes, such as a loose gas cap (reseated the gas cap), the vast majority of the causes resulted in the replacement fuel level sensor. After a week, the fuel gauge started showing the correct fuel level and the "Service Engine" light went off. So, I figured it was a loose gas cap. Today, I filled up and once again, the fuel gauge is not showing a full tank. After all of the issues I'm running into with this Frontier, I will NEVER buy another Nissan!

Nissan extended the warranty for this, but did not notify anyone that this was an issue and the warranty has expired. Of course they won't do anything about it.

My 2007 Nissan Frontier had a recall due to air bags I tried to get help through nissan the fuel sensor when out then my tensioners.......NISSAN WILL NOT HELP

I have gone through all the hoops to have this issue resolved. One, contacted my dealership, who by the way knew of this impending issue when I purchased the previously owned vehicle. Two, at their suggestion I called Nissan Factory rep to discuss a factory authorized repair solution, she hung up, when I informed her that I was recording the conversation. Three, filed a report with the NHSTA and it is currently recorded and on file along with numerous other complaints with the identical problem. Forth, again approached my dealer indicating that this complaint was not going away and that at the very least I should have been informed before purchase of the vehicle about the fuel sensor problem (since it happens on almost every Nissan vehicle sold during a narrow window of time. I also indicated that this was a classic example of a legal "Failure to Disclose Issue" and as such they hold liability, especially in view of the many documented cases of fuel sensor failure and my documented complaints to them, Nissan and the NHSTA.
As mentioned below this is a critical safety issue that can lead to accidents and deaths (similar circumstance as the GM ignition switch lawsuits) since if you run out of fuel, especially at high speeds you loose all ability to steer the vehicle, and very limited and declining ability to breaking . This refers to my 07 Nissan frontier with 90k miles. Since august 2012, fuel gauge is erratic indicating erroneous fuel level. May show fuel when empty or empty when tank if fuel. Potential for running out of gas on highway creating hazardous circumstance. Diagnostic code is P0463. Internet search reveals many with same problem on Nissan. Allegedly same problem resulted in recall for 2006 but not for 2007 models with same issue. Why? customer service at local Nissan dealer and Nissan main office not particularly helpful except to say local dealer will fix for 400-500 plus 120 for initial diagnosis. Blatantly unfair to customer for this safety issue. This is not a worn out part, it is a defective electrical fuel sensor sending unit.
My fuel gauge is not working properly, which has caused the check engine light to stay on constantly. When I fill up with fuel, the fuel gauge will sometimes move up to full, but only after a few starts of the engine. However, it will fall back down to empty after only driving a few miles or so. I really never know how much fuel I have unless I go back to fill it up just to be safe. I have looked online today and found out that there is a massive and very widespread fuel system issue with this vehicle type. I notified Nissan today and was told that there is not an open recall for this problem with my vehicle. How is that even possible, based on the number of incidents I have found from my research dealing with this particular issue. The Nissan agent advised me to go to a Nissan dealership garage and ask for a diagnostic check. She said to call her back or have a mechanic rep. Call to advise what the diagnostic check revealed. She stated Nissan may be able to help with some financial aide. I truly appreciate the gesture, but that does not fix the fact that this issue should be completely covered by a manufacturer recall. Yesterday I ran out of gas on the expressway during heavy traffic. I was very fortunate to be able to coast two lanes over to the emergency lane. However, the portion I was in was very narrow and did not offer ample room to pour the gas in the tank that a friend brought me an hour after I ran out of gas. A police officer kindly stopped to assist with the very dangerous mission of trying to get the gas in the vehicle standing only inches from the traffic as it rushed by at very high speeds. To make a long story a little shorter, there was an incident involving two tractor trailers and two cars. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. Including the officer, my friend, and myself, who were standing only feet from where the incident occurred. Thank god!
After refueling the vehicle, I noticed that the fuel gauge was still indicating that it had only 1/4 tank of fuel. I drove about 2 miles and the "service engine soon" light came on. After arriving at home I shut off the vehicle, checked the fuel cap for tightness, and restarted. The fuel gauge dropped to empty, the low fuel light came on, and the ses light remained on. Later that day I drove about 35 miles under the aforementioned conditions. Upon stopping and restarting the vehicle, the fuel gauge went to full, but the "service engine soon" light remained on. That is the situation as it stands now.I have not contacted Nissan directly yet, but I have researched the situation, and found numerous reports online of the same problem, and of Nissan's unwillingness to resolve the issue at no charge to the consumer.(it is apparently a defective fuel sending unit.) my reason for reporting this is twofold. 1) to make everyone aware of the issue, and 2) to express my concerns that a malfunctioning fuel gauge could cause a crash if the driver ran out of fuel while in motion, and had to make an emergency stop.

There is a recall for this problem, but Nissan has not included all vehicles. It must be the same part across all the trucks/cars since the problem is the same.

Having evap valve problem to start with. Noticed the gurgling was much more vocal lately. Nearly a year to the day of the last emissions debacle, I start the truck with no problem, gas gauge goes up to 3/4 tank and while I am letting it get up to temp, gauge drops to E and light comes on. I have an anxiety problem so this observation did not help me!! Seemed to run okay. My saving grace was that I always reset my trip odometer at fill up and know how far I can go on 3/4 tank of gas. Did some homework on this problem and learned this is a really prevalent concern. No issues at the pump...yet, but it's bothersome to know that this would not allow you to fill up should it fully close shut. Going to call a dealership to find out the scoop on this. Pretty sure I would be paying out of pocket. I will be writing Nissan about my issues with this product. Might be a job for my brother-in-law!

I have done a lot of research on this problem on Frontier forums, there are thousands upon thousands of complaints. I also talked to the dealer, they said that is a very common problem in that model. Screw Nissan for not recalling this part. The part is $85, if you wanna do it yourself you have to remove the driver side rear tire and drop the fuel tank which is a mofo. The dealer will charge $400 to $500, I've seen different estimates.
I've run out of gas once while pulling my boat but luckily I carry a chain and I was a few yards from a gas station, got someone to pull me to the pump. My suggestion, when it gets to half a tank and drops to empty fill it back up, asap.

I ran out of gas twice before I realized that my fuel sensor wasn't quite working (long walk the first time as I'd left the house without my phone - thank god my kids weren't with me). It finally quit working all together. Contacted the dealership and they said it was not covered. Failed emissions and had to get it fixed. Some time between contacting the dealership the first time and contacting them to get it fixed after failing emissions, they extended the warranty.

NISSAN CORPORATION IS VERY MUCH AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. THEY HAVE FIXED MANY UNDER WARRANTY, IF YOU HAVE THE SELECT VIN #'S THAT THEY SAY THEY WILL FIX UNDER WARRANTY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN PICK WHICH VIN'S TO FIX IF I HAVE ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS AND I AM REPORTING THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY KNOW IS A FAULTY PART. IT HAS REALLY BECOME AND ISSUE AS I AM NEARING THE TIME FOR MY EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND THE "CHECK ENGINE SOON" LIGHT DOES NOT EVER GO OUT ANYMORE. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT AFTER MY TANK GETS TO HALF A TANK I CAN NOT TELL HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE, AS THE NEEDLE FALLS PAST EMPTY AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH THE SELECT VIN# REPAIR AND THERE RESPONSE WAS THEY SENT ME A WARRANTY REPAIR CARD FOR THE FIX WITH A LIMIT ON THE MILEAGE AND THE YEARS. I USE THIS TRUCK FOR MY AND WORK AND I DRIVE ALOT OF MILES A WEEK ANY WHERE FROM 500 TO 600 MILES A WEEK. ANYWAY THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT THIS PART IS FAULTY AND I CAN NOT TELL HOW MUCH FUEL I HAVE UNTIL I AM WALKING. WHEN I TOOK THE WARRANTY THEY SENT TO ME TO MY DEALERSHIP. THEY STILL WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE. SO EVERYWHERE I TURN I KEEP GETTING "NO" I'M NOT ASKING FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION YOU KNOW. I'M JUST ASKING THAT NISSAN STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR THIS PROBLEM THAT THEY KNOW IS A PROBLEM OR THEY WOULD NOT BE PICKING AND CHOOSING WHICH VIN#'S THAT THEY ARE GOING TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE READ MANY FORUMS ON THE FRONTIER CLUB WEB SITE ABOUT PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND I THINK IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE FORCED TO REPAIR IT THEIR SELVES OR PAY THEIR DEALERSHIPS $400 OR $500 FOR THIS REPAIR. service engine soon light is on and won't turn off. gas gauge shows half tank when full. gauge will eventually go to full. Had the vehicle diagnosed, came back as needing fuel sending unit located inside the gas tank. The fuel sensor 'A' electrical circuit was faulty. Faulty fuel level sensor.
