I have taken this truck to Pohanka Nissan in Fredericksburg, VA. who stated twice that is what it is supposed to do. This automatic Transmission will also stick in 3rd gear after stop and go traffic where I imagine the transmission is hot. The transmission does not want to shift into the higher gear at 50-55 mph. It will but not until after a long delay to shift. The primary problem of the transmission at 64 mph on an early morning with the cruise control set will downshift depending on the downhill grade 5-10 mph then having to increase motor rpms to regain speed originally selected. This is not fuel efficient. Again the dealers service writer has no explanation for either Automatic transmission problem only to say there is nothing wrong with either problem that is what the transmission is supposed to do. Very frustrating and annoying. I asked the service writer at 22,000 miles if the transmission fluid was low or smelled burnt. The service writer said they checked it. I asked how they checked it with the automatic transmission being a sealed unit and they said it has a gauge. I said a gauge? where is the gauge. After the service writer realized I knew a little about what I was talking about they said let me call the technician. Apparently the technician was unavailable for comment to explain what they did with another tech stating he took it to 80 mph and detected no problem. At least I again presented this problem while the vehicle was under warranty.
Update from Apr 3, 2017: Transmission now has a shutter on takeoff. Very noticeable under load. I had 15 bags of stone in the bed and the truck shuttered as if it may not keep going. Once up to speed it was ok.
