About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I was driving to work on a major tollway freeway in houston, Texas at about 5:30 in the morning. A rock flew up and hit my passenger side foglight and shattered it. I just bought this car three weeks prior. I feel that this will be a constant problem. Whoever decided to put glass foglights low in the front is not very smart. Engineeringly speaking these foglights are not tilted to help with the impact of debris on a freeway. They should have thought about this a little more when they made them. Not to mention, I bought this car brand new. I did not expect any problems so soon. I did not purchase and extended warranty, I figured the car would be covered, being that it was new. I was shocked to find out the foglight alone is $175 and the labor is another $300 dollars. This seems extremely expensive for the average person to spend when I just gave them $ $21,000 not more than six weeks ago. I have since then parked my brand new car in the garage and am driving my old reliable vehicle. Not only can I not afford a new foglight every time a rock hits my car, but I am thoroughly dissatisfied. The company will not cover it. I feel jilted. The problem with the foglight is four fold- it is made of glass, it will take half a day for and experience mechanic from the dealer only to replace this bulb, they have to tear into other parts on this Nissan just to change the bulb, the lights are not tilted so rocks will always be a direct impact shatter. Maybe they could change the style to one panel like the old 2005 cars. It is too expensive to replace a single bulb kit. I hoping with this letter that atleast, the manufacturers will change this somehow. Either make the foglights out of some kind of plastic, or change the bumper altogether, so the lights are at the top, near the hood of the car. I am so sad!
