Replying to question sent by Johnny--it turns out there are things called coil packs that have something to do with the spark plugs. When the packs go bad, they send a radio signal to the computer, which causes the car to stall. When you stop and restart the engine, the computer is reset. Once the coil packs were replaced, the problem was solved and the car runs like a top. The Nissan mechanic who solved this says this was a problem with the 1993 and 1994 Maximas.
We definitely had the same trouble you are having, car stalled when traveling at highway speeds, or, oddly, when making a right turn into traffic. Good luck!

Car stalls at any speed, and shifts erratically between 2-3 or 3-4 if I leave the O/D on. Turn the car off and start it up again, and all is well. I'm expecting the worst...
