Maxima GLE 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

The check engine light used to come on and off regularly. Though there was a bit of shaking at stops, there was no major problem. Even took a cross country trip from North Carolina to Texas in it,regularly touching 100/Mph.

Then my yearly inspection came this year in September,09 and it failed because the check engine light was on (code P174). My mechanic suggested an illegal way to get it through inspection by paying $200. Of course, I refused it,considering it to be unethical and would rather invest in repairing it. So, here I am with a bill of $ 909 for replacing the manifold gasket.....reading this forum has opened my eyes to this technical defect in Nissan vehicle's. Surely they should correct this defect of overheating in the manifold area which burns the gasket!!! and they should cover the cost of repairing this defect at their dealerships, irrespective of the car's year of manufacture.

I've noticed that other people have also had this problem in the late 90's models. Nothing seems to fix the problem (except maybe a new engine)
