I Just purchased a used 2004 Nissan Maxima with 16,000 miles that spent its entire life in a garage and it has cancer under the paint at the front of the moon roof. This is definitely a manufacture defect, that is NOT covered because it wasn't discovered in time. The location of the rust was very hard to see because its right in the middle of the roof. The only reason I saw it is because I am 6'5 and have had the car 2 weeks and noticed a discoloration spot on the clear coat. I am VERY IRRITATED THAT NISSAN WON'T HELP ME WITH THIS ISSUE AND COULD COST UPWARD OF $1,000.00. This is just not acceptable and I am going to cause as big as stink as possible to get them to take care of it before it gets worse.

Went to local Nissan dealer to find out about rust coverage, was told I am out of lock. I informed them the rust was cause by an improper recall fix. They said it is not covered. This problem should be a recall item. In addition I purchased the car December 15, 2004. Nissan's rust coverage is 5 years / unlimited mileage which i fall into yet Nissan will not pay for the repair.
If your sky roof begins to rust out please report it. Nissan should not be allowed to get away with this.
After some research I see I am not the only one with this same issue, if you have this same issue please contact me at 954-695-5671 or jmayarch1@aol.com. I would like to start a class action lawsuit against Nissan.
Update from Oct 16, 2013: Even though since posting my complaint I have received numerous contacts from owners with the same problem I could not find an attorney to take the case as they didn't see it as a profitable case since its wasn't something involving life safety. Since then I have traded in the car with the rust.

When it rains heavily, water comes into the cabin of the car. I have found that head liner can be dropped and silicone applied to stop leak. When I called the Nissan service dept, they said will not help with repairs. My next car will NOT be a Nissan.

Went to local Nissan dealer to find out about rust coverage, was told I am ou t of lock. Rust must be all the way through the metal. I informed them the rust was cause by an improper recall fix. They said it is not covered. This problem should be a recall item.
To this point I had given Nissan all my business to them. I will never go back to them.

Nissan would not accept any responsibility for the rust, said that it was the responsibility of third party that was contracted to do the recall. Third party accepts no responsibility. I'm stuck in the middle having to cover the cost of the repair. The Nissan dealer as well as the body shop that did the repair both agree that the rust is a result of the improper replacement of the glass.
