The failure is with the ABS system on my 2004 Maxima. There is a documented tsb for this problem for 2004-07. A poor design of rear wheel assembly(by Nissan own admittance) causes wheel sensor to prematurely fail, causing ABS controller/solenoid to fail. This has been documented to occur with less than 40,000 miles on a vehicle. This in turn completely disables the vehicle's ABS system. Nissan refuses to issue a recall or even assist with repairs, even with all of the reported incidents. In most incidents that I found, it fails right after the factory warranty has expired. In my particular case, I have an extended pre-owned warranty through Nissan. Though, Nissan says that it isn't covered under my warranty. Repairs are estimated to cost in the area of $2100. As heavy as the vehicles are, not having functioning ABS can be very dangerous. I don't know exactly how many people have had this problem, but a quick search of automotive forums for the Nissan Maxima returned a great amount, completely describing the problem and fix needed.

I bought the 2004 Nissan Maxima sl for my wife in 2008. It was a one owner with about 90,000 highway miles, I loved the car and had no problems until Feb 2010. The ABS system started acting up. Sounds like the ABS is trying to engage every time you hit the brakes. Nissan dealership wanted $100 just to hook it to computer to see what the problem was, no thank you. I had a mechanic friend hook his service computer up while I drove and like many other consumers, my Maxima has a right (passenger) rear speed sensor that is bad, this causes the brakes to not function properly, all the while there are no service lights on the dash, you can pull the ABS fuse and but then that knocks out 1/2 of the cluster, including speedometer, gas gauge, parts of the obc, this is a huge problem suffered by many consumers and needs to be addressed immediately.

I bought a 2004 Nissan Maxima in 2003 right after the redesign, and every since I have had it little things start going wrong. At 39,000 miles major things start going wrong now at 54,000 miles I have no ABS braking system, and other things seems to start acting up. I have tried asking Nissan for help but they told me to get lost. I wish the tsb would look out for the consumers and get them some relief. I guess the only thing we as consumer can do is get a lawyer and sue under the lemon law and I know you don't need any money to retain an attorney. I know that 928 complaints that some thing is wrong with the product, and I am sure that the courts will agree with me. I had high hopes for Nissan cars but now if you try to give me one I would try and have you committed. I will never buy another Nissan ever.

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima with 50,008 miles on it and recently had the ABS coming on while I was driving and no dash warning lights on, brought it to the dealer to find out that the right rear ABS speed sensor went bad but why didn't any warning lights come on they pulled the ABS fuse and now the warning lights are on but you absolutely can not stop the vehicle when this happen this imagine hitting the brakes at 55 mph with your two year old in car and its not stopping because when you ABS sensor goes bad it turns on the ABS which does not allow your normal brakes to operate and do not throw any of your dash lights on, if I had the money for a lawyer I would be going after Nissan right now it should work so if you have a problem with your ABS it should turn at least your warning lights and then disconnect the ABS so you can use your normal brakes to actually stop the car..... also none of the front end and rear end body lines match up to none of the gaps between hood and fenders are the same can get finger in one side and not the other same with the trunk, and the car has only been in one accident that I know of that I reported had gotten side swiped at 45 mph on drivers side by big truck also notice that front and rear windshields do not have Nissan stamp on windows the car fax was clean well the on the dealership I bought car from was clean I think this car was wrecked front and rear and fixed and wasn't reported then sold to me with 26,800 miles when I bought it no sits at 50,000 cause have nothing but problems with I would like a state inspector to look at car my opinion is car is unsafe but only one I have and still owe more than 10,000 dollars on it please help.
