Maxima SE 3.5L V6

My skyview - which is a glass on the roof that doesn't open - had a recall for replacement about a year after buying it new in 2004. I had the work done by taking it to the Nissan dealer. They sent it to a glass shop. It had been ok for years but started dripping water by the glasses holder near the rear view mirror.

It used to be minor, but now when it rains hard, I'm getting a significant stream, to the point I have to leave a towel over the gear shift area to catch water. Of course Nissan says it's out of warranty. This is a crappy company and I'll never buy another Nissan. It has shifted crappy since I bought it, the struts don't hold up, anti lock system crapped out and many more annoying and expensive problems. Also, I think the water running down the side walls messed up the electric door locks and windows!

Maxima SL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

My extended warranty just ran out, so they would not help me. Took it to BBB & Nissan allowed me to use a automotive place that gives 10% off , what an dang joke!!! I took it into the place they referred me to, the person even said yes we can fix it, but that it was just going to happen again anyway. That it is a manufacturer design defect, water gets caught on top in the false sun roof and has no where to go. I had it repaired by someone else that deals with sunroofs, looked great but it started again and is leaking into my car and has ruined some electrical in the car as well!!!! This is so wrong!!!! They need to recall it and redesign to just a sunroof/moonroof.

DUE TO A RECALL BACK IN 2006 TO REPLACE THE GLASS ON THE SKYVIEW ROOF, STAMFORD NISSAN MOTORS REPLACED THE GLASS TO SUPPORT THE RECALL ID 04v2736000. I STILL OWN THE VEHICLE; FOR THE PAST 3-4 YEARS, THE ROOF AROUND THE GLASS HAS BEEN RUSTING TO THE POINT THAT IT STARTED LEAKING IN THE FRONT SEAT. ALTHOUGH THE RECALL STIPULATED NISSAN TO REPLACE AND INSTALL A NEW GLASS (WHICH WAS PERFORMED ON MY CAR IN MARCH 2006), THE GLASS WAS REPLACED IMPROPERLY EFFECTIVELY CAUSING RUST DAMAGE AND NOW LEAKAGE (A FACT THAT WAS MADE BY NISSAN’S AUTHORIZED AUTO BODY SHOP). I PLACED A COMPLAINT TO NISSAN, AND YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THEY SAID? -OUT OF WARRANTY- SO THEY DECIDED TO PUT MY COMPLAINT IN AS A "GOOD FAITH" CLAIM AND TOLD ME TO GET AN ESTIMATE FROM AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN AUTO BODY SHIP AND THEY WOULD ESCALATE MY CLAIM TO ANOTHER DEPARTMENT. OH BY THE WAY, WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEMS WITH THESE SKYVIEW ROOFS, THE ANSWER WAS NO. PLEASE NOTE, AT THIS POINT 2012, I AM UNAWARE, OR, JUST CAN'T REMEMBER THE RECALL BACK IN 2006! IN MY ESTIMATE THE AUTHORIZED NISSAN AUTO BODY SHOP STATED "THE RUST AND LEAKING IS DUE TO THE IMPROPER INSTALLATION AND SEALING OF THE GLASS ON THE SKYVIEW ROOF. THIS INSTALLATION WAS NOT FACTORY INSTALLED". THAT INFORMATION BLEW MY MIND BECAUSE REMEMBER, I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS REPLACED TO BEGIN WITH! A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, I FINALLY RECEIVED THE ANSWER THAT I WAS WAITING TO HEAR FROM OUR CUSTOMER REPS FROM NISSAN......A BIG FAT NO....... AGAIN INFORMING THAT THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. UNLESS I AM TOTALLY IGNORANT, THIS PROBLEM OVERALL DOES NOT SMELL "WARRANTY". IT'S A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THIS $30,000.00 VEHICLE THAT I PURCHASED 8 YEARS AGO (PAID WITH HARD EARNED MONEY THAT WAS SAVED OVER TIME). OF COURSE THEY CREATE A RECALL FOR THIS MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT BUT THEN BY HONORING THE RECALL, THEY REPLACED THE GLASS FOR ALL US 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS AND THE OUTCOME OF THAT INSTALLATION IS A VERY POOR SEALING JOB ON THE SKYVIEW ROOF. I AM CONTINUING MY QUEST TO GET FULL PAYMENT FOR THE AUTO BODY SHOP TO REPLACE THE GLASS AND FIX THE ROOF AND WILL BE MAILING A LETTER TO EVERY EXECUTIVE THERE IS WITHIN NISSAN ABOUT THIS INEXCUSABLE BOTCHED ITEM THAT WAS MANUFACTURED BY NISSAN FOR THE MAXIMA WHICH IS CAUSING ME GRIEF. NOT TOO MENTION, MY CAR IS 8 YEARS OLD AND AS I WAS PLANNING THIS YEAR TO TRADE-IN MY MAXIMA FOR ANOTHER NISSAN, PRETTY FUNNY HAHA, I AM STUCK TRYING TO GET THE FxxxxxG THING FIXED BEFORE I CAN DO ANYTHING. LAST NOTE, I PREVIOUSLY OWNED 2 OTHER NISSAN VEHCILES AND I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER NISSAN AFTER THIS. HOW DARE THEY DENY HAVING THIS REPAIRED - SHAME ON NISSAN.
