Maxima SE 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

The 2006 Nissan Maxima was manufactured with a faulty transmission. It prematurely wears and has caused me to get a new transmission installed in the car that cost me $5000. The problem will only resurface because the transmission itself has a defect in the way it was built. Nissan needs to own up to this mistake that has cost owners lots of money to make these repairs.

I am so nervous about driving my car because of the constant jerking and God forbid if I stop and have to accelerate, it jerks so hard that it feels like the whole car is about to fall apart. I have had 2 maximas before this and have never had these kind of issues. I refuse to pay to have it repaired especially since I think Nissan should be held accountable.

Maxima SE 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 107,000 miles

Started having problems with shifting, RPM's revving up & jerking..I just thought it needed a tune up..So I changed the spark plugs & everything..It stopped for a week, so I'm thinking that was it..sorry but all this started around the 80000 on my odometer...Nope, that wasn't it.

I had numerous mechanics keep telling me I'll see you at 100000 miles cause the transmission falls out..They have fixed a lot of them, but I was like nah, it's a Nissan..but low & behold it fell out at 107000..I carried it to the dealership & like any dealership they said nah it's just the cars age..But researching more, a friend owns a Nissan dealership & yes, found out the transmission in all 2006 goes out at or before 100000 miles..When I bought the car brand new was never told about the new transmission they were trying out or any warranty on it..This car has become a pain in my ass, with brakes, transmission, just spent $550 on a new board that burned up..My engine light still comes on for about 2 weeks & then goes off..

I just found out that there is a Class action lawsuit. If anybody could let me know who to contact about this please email me at bcook316@gmail.com..Cause I will gladly get in on it since Nissan won't take responsibility for these faulty transmissions & brakes & etc...

Maxima 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

I have purchased (6) six Nissan vehicles:

2000 Nissan Maxima, 2002 Nissan Maxima, 2005 Nissan Sentra, 2005 Nissan Armanda, 2006 Nissan Sentra, and 2006 Nissan Maxima.

So right now I am a very very dissatisfied customer. Two months July 2014 ago while backing in a parking space at Mother's Nursing Home visit my car jerked to the point that I thought I had hit something. But after driving for a couple of days I realized that the transmission is failing and not operating like it should be. I took the vehicle to Nissan Action in August 2014 for service and paid $150.00 to see what the issue was. Not one sales representative informed me that Nissan was having major issues with my car. I could’ve at least saved that money to put on the major maintenance bill that Nissan is not going to assist me in getting my car fix. The representative told me that I would probably need a new transmission. I am a TN National Guard soldier and a police officer. I will definite put the word out that Nissan is not trying to assist customers with correcting the problem and giving them so discount on the maintenance. I will not purchase another Nissan unless the company honor their satisfaction guarantee/ recall service.

Maxima ES V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,000 miles

I have always heard nothing but great things about the Nissan vehicles so when my mother passed away and left me a little money I decided to upgrade from my 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity to a Nissan Maxima. I wouldn't even look at other manufacturers cause I had my heart set on a Maxima. Now I am broke, heart broken and mad. Only 3 months ago I purchased my 2006 Maxima 3.5SE for $8000 cash only to find out now I need a new transmission for $3000 with only a 1 year warranty from Nissan and no guarantee that the same problem wont reoccur in time. After googling my problem I find out that there are many consumers out there with the same problem with their Nissan Maxima and Nissan is aware of the problem but simply denies it and refuses to correct their defective parts. No I have an $8000 yard ornament instead of a nice vehicle to drive, I should have stuck with Chevrolet cause I am back in my Celebrity and its running great after 20+years. SHAME ON YOU NISSAN, FOR NOT STANDING BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT WITHOUT US CONSUMERS WHERE WOULD YOUR COMPANY BE OR WHERE WILL YOUR COMPANY END UP WITH DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT? You'll be where I am today broke with an $8000 vehicle you cant drive. Be careful GOD DOES NOT LIKE UGLY.

CVT transmission went out at 80,400 miles. Nissan Consumer Affairs offered no help. Nissan extended the warranty for 2007 and up Maxima's, but won't stand behind the 2006's with the same transmission problems.

Maxima 3.50

This is my 4th Nissan car and I have NEVER had problems like this before. In October of 2013 I paid 3,000.00 to have my timing belts changed. After these repairs I noticed that my car was hesitating sporadically. I informed the mechanic and he said I needed motor mounts installed. I changed the motor mounts and this did not correct the problem. I took my car to another mechanic and he said that I need a transmission. After much shopping around the cheapest transmission would still cost me approximately 3200.00. I have heard from several repair shops that this is a known problem with this year car. All of my other Nissans have had over 150000 miles on them with no issues. Nissan Corporation has just lost a LOYAL customer and trust me, I make sure I tell this story to anyone who will listen.

Maxima LS 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,010 miles

Again, I would not have purchased this vehicle if I knew then what I know now. I should have thought twice when I asked the dealership if they had history on the vehicle repairs and they said no. That was the first red flag. Then when I got almost to the end of the manufacturers warranty and asked to have a check up they said no because I did not have any warning or check engine lights on. That was the second red flag. Then I started having problems at 100,010 miles and my extended warranty had just expired 10 miles before and they would not honor it. I should have considered it a loss and let the bank take it back.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

I just bought my first car, and I am a single mom so making the car payment alone has been a struggle. I have only had the car for 4 months and it only has 85,000 miles on it and when I am driving it jerks really hard.(it only does this when its hot, and it doesn't always do it) I am taking it to a Nissan dealership tomorrow to have the transmission flushed and hopefully that will buy me some time. I don't understand why Nissan isn't doing anything about this!! I have always heard Nissans were good cars, but obviously a lot of people have this same problem. Has anyone else had any luck with the transmission flush?

Maxima 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and last year the transmission started slipping and shifting hard, especially when going into and out of 3rd gear. Took it to a transmission guy and he recommended flushing and replacing the fluid. That made it better for about a week and it started again.

After seeing all of the complaints online I took it to a Nissan dealership and I didn't even have to tell him what was wrong, as soon as I mentioned transmission he said all of them have that problem and it would be $4,000 for the new transmission. I said Nissan should be fixing this and they told me to contact their corporate offices because they couldn't do anything. Corporate made me go back to the dealer have an official test done. The official test was to hook it to the computer and look up the problem on a bulletin provided by the company (which tells me they are well aware of this problem) and see if it was in the range of problem transmissions, of course it was but that cost me $50. After a week I heard back from the corporate offices and they said they weren't going to do anything.

I was pissed at this point and sent their "customer service" department an email to let them know how disappointing it is to deal with a company that won't stand behind their products and that I will never buy another Nissan, their response was "OK, sorry to hear that but we still aren't going to help you".

Its seems inappropriate for Nissan to not help us out with this transmission problem when they know what the problem is. There are enough complaints out there. I wish someone in the government pays attention to our claims. I am a college student and there is no way that i would be able to afford fixing this problem nor those who have families and daily responsibilities. Even though I love the car (because it is a nice car), I don't think I'll buy another one in the future (meaning future models or so)

Maxima LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

I purchased my 2006 Nissan Maxima new. At 64k miles, the transmission started to jerk and slip. I took it to the Dallas area Nissan dealership and the diagnosed "transmission failure". Quoted me $3000 for a replacement with a 1-year warranty. I sent a letter to Nissan customer affairs detailing the problem and they stated they would not offer me any assistance. I then brought the car to an independent dealer who rebuilt the transmission and provided a 3-year warranty. This repair shop frequently sees the same problem with Nissan automobiles. After this expensive repair, I experienced a leak in power steering column and have since sold the car. Will never purchase another Nissan product and have told everyone I know never to do so.

I recently purchased a new Toyota Venza since several mechanics said that Toyota and Honda are the most reliable cars on the market. Run far away from all Nissan automobiles!

Maxima SE 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 170,000 miles

I first want to say that I LOVED my MAX. Notice the past tense...after much thought and consideration, I traded it in for an Infiniti G35. My plan was to keeping this car for at least 10 years (or at least 8) but the repairs were too costly. Transmission specialist from garage stated total rebuilt w/labor $4200; salvage yard transmission w/labor still approx. $3000. No one recommended a partial rebuilt transmission for the money it still cost. I shopped around to several transmission places and the best deal was at the Nissan Dealership...remanufactured transmission w/labor approx $3200...this is because they will buy your old transmission from you for about $800...they call it the core. Anyway, that was my major issue. Another issue but a few thousand dollars less was the catalytic converter. Aside from regular wear and tear stuff these were my main issues....minor stuff: tires were expensive, replacing headlights were expensive ($150 due to labor intensive). I really did love my car and miss it. I think I am too cheap to dive my new car...I hate going to the gas pump every 5 days!

I first reversed out of my driveway, which was fine. Then i put the car into drive and it took 5 seconds to kick into gear. omgggggg!!!! I totally agree with all you guys 100% NISSAN needs to do a recall on these cars as they will only result in getting someone in a horrible accident or even KILLED. I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima bought it used with 80k on it car ran perfectly fine got to around 114-120k and it started to slip and no it would do it all the time only certain times. This is so annoying and they need to do a recall seriously.

Would not buy 2006 Maxima due bad transmission issues. Paid $30,000.00 for New 2006 Maxima, had less than 100,000 miles and started jerking all of a sudden when start and stop from red light to red light. Brought to dealer where I purchased, said I needed a new transmission. Car was not driven rough, one driver only. This car was way to young to have these kind of problems. Definately would not recommend!

Maxima SL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Bought wife new 2006 Maxima SL after her 2002 Maxima GLE was wrecked. Car was great until about 125,000. Started delaying shifting between reverse and drive after continued warm up or drive time. Also, began to have a hard time deciding what gear to run in at low speeds or when significant changes in terrain occurred. I took the car to a local dealership and had transmission flushed since Nissan conveniently build car where transmission filter cannot be changed. Flush cost about $225 and did nothing to solve the problem. This is our 4th Nissan product and will be our last until I am convinced they have their inferior transmission problem fixed. The engine is a top 10 engine and is like a rocket ship to drive. Unfortunately, Nissan went cheap on the transmission. Cheap for them but not the consumer at about +$3,500 to replace. Nissan needs to stand behind product and recall. This would regain my confidence. It's obvious this is a wide spread problem with so many buyers complaining. Nissan do the right thing!

Maxima

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I am so glad that I came across this forum at first I thought that it was just my 2006 Nissan Maxima,I see that its almost everyone.Like everyone else I can not afford to get my transmmission fixed.I took my can to three different mechanics to see what the hell was going on.The first place was a Nissan dealership, that told me the car was fine, yet gave me a three thousand dollar qoute for something else.So I got back in my car and jerked for another month, next I took my car to a transmission specialist, and on this day the car seem to forget what it was doing 30 mins prior,so of course Im the crazy one, sure enough within the following hour it went back to its normal routine. The strange thing about the car is that when I go over a hill, or Im in a traffic situation where someone slows down in the front of me it would go into this annoying funk, gas peddal would stick, the engin would raval up loud,it shifts down.My third place was back to a different Nissan dealership, here I was told I need motor mounts, and a possible new transmission they were not sure...So when I got home I called the Nissan recall number because I have had enough, and was told the car dont have any recalls on it..Liars!!Now I am going to be forced to let the car go because I cant afford to buy a transmission. So when there is a class act law suite on this piece of sh*t that Nissan made, I will be the first in line

Maxima SE 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

I brought a 2006 nissan maxima new because I was told that nissan produced a good product. I can truly say this is not the case. Once my car reached 110,000 miles my transmission began to slip and jerk in the 1st and 2nd gear. I took it to the dealer and I was told that I needed a new transmission which would cost 4K. I am completely upset. I should have kept my American Ford Car. I will never buy a maxima again. Nissan need to recall the 2006 maxima for defected transmission. I am telling all of my friends not to buy any of Nissan products. Nissan can kiss my ass!!!!! This is the worst car that i have ever had. I regret getting rid of my American car. You can bet the next car will be American.
