About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Nothing but problems with 07 Maxima we bought, later repossessed. The steering wheel and the whole front of the car would shake uncontrollably especially when brakes were used. Also wheels (not factory but they were on there when purchased, but asked to replace but never happened) were noticeably bent. And lastly, the front and side airbags deployed after shutting my drivers side door causing my arm to be burned.

I took my car in to the dealership due to all of my warning lights coming on. Upon putting it on the lift, they showed me where the underside was significant rust that caused the tire & brake sensors to fall off the struts. Additionally, the floor pans were completely rusted out with holes, which can cause my feet to crash through the floorboards causing an accident or carbon dioxide poisoning. I have researched the many problems reported online regarding rusted floor pans and believe the NHTSA should force Nissan to provide a recall to get these items fixed. I understand rust is not a standard reason for NHTSA to be involved, but will it take my death to have you regulate & resolve this issue?

I was driving my car on an average day. As I made a right turn, ahead of oncoming traffic, I tried to accelerate and my car would not accelerate above 20-30mph. With traffic swiftly approaching at speeds near 40-50mph, luckily, I was able to pull into a nearby gas station.none of my check engine/warning lights were on.I turned the car off and started it back up but the issue remained.when I tried to accelerate the car wouldn't O over 30mph and was making a heaving vibration noise every time I stopped. I was able to get the car to a Nissan dealership who ultimately recommended the repairs outlined in the service bulletin. My warranty company denied the claim "citing water damage", but the bulletin lists the pfp (primary failed part) as the "housing assy- rear axle, rh" (which should have been covered). I bought the vehicle used (from a Nissan dealer) and because the manufacturers warranty had expired I was forced to pay for the repairs ($1,000+) on a vehicle that I barley had for 1 year. I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs (as recommended by the dealership) to try and get some type of assistance with this issue. They basically told me its not their problem since the Nissan warranty had expired on the vehicle. Nissan is very well aware of this defect that is a severe safety concern due to the obvious design. I luckily had time and space to move my vehicle safely off the road; the next person may not be as lucky. Nissan should and needs to be held responsible for the overall safety of their all vehicles and this ongoing defect. A recall should be mandated to correct this potential hazard while driving. A life is far more valuable than recall expenses. My ABS/traction control system failed. Due to the system failing the vehicle transmission malfunctions. This happened while I was driving on the highway traveling at the recommended speed. Due to the ABS/traction control system failing my vehicle decelerated quickly causing a unsafe environment for me, my passenger and the vehicles behind me. Fortunately the vehicles behind me was at a safe distance and no accident was caused. I had to have the vehicle towed to safe location because this malfunction causes the transmission to not shift from a low gear. This problem with my vehicle is unsafe and I have just found that it is a common problem. Yet there has been no responsible action taken by Nissan. Please investigate this issue.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Maxima. The contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle decreased acceleration to 20 mph without warning and despite that the accelerator pedal was being depressed. The vehicle has no power between 20-45 mph. ABS, slip, tcs off and brake lights are now on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the rr and lr ABS sensor failed, hub assemblies needed to be replace and the ABS actuator now needs replacement at a near total cost of $3300. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was available. The failure occurred at mileages 63,270.

ABS, slip, tcs & brake lights came on suddenly while taking off and there was excessive vibration. As a result, there was (and still is) a total loss of ABS & tcs systems.. engines revs high & surges while taking 1/4 mile to reach 40mph. Diagnostic states that there are problems with the ABS actuator, speed sensors & wheel hub. &2,858.65 to repair. Given the lack of acceleration reliability as well as the loss of braking & traction systems, this is a serious safety issue.

I was driving my children to daycare this morning when I noticed my brakes making a funny noise and sound. I could hear a clicking sound from the front, drivers side wheel, and the car began to shake as I tried to come to a stop. I immediately took the car to my local Nissan dealership where they told me the ABS actuator needed to be replaced. At a cost of $1,600. After doing my own online research I found that there are hundreds of Maxima owners out there with the same problem. This has got to be a Nissan defect. Its terrible that Nissan can put out a bad product and make the consumer cover the cost out of pocket!
