Maxima V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles

My husband gave me this car as a gift five years ago. I was very excited and happy to receive this car. It was the best gift I ever got. Last week on Thursday a signal light came up saying to check the engine, and on Sunday (Easter) my husband and I went to the hospital to encourage and pray for the doctors and nurses at Orlando Reginal Hospital and coming home we heard a loud crack coming from the front of the car. Suddenly the car did not want to move forward nor backward. We call AAA and took the car to a mechanic and left it there until he could check want was wrong with it. Today April 14, 2020, he notified us that the transmission is not working. This car has only 104,000 miles. How can a transmission fail with such low mileage? If this car does not have a recall it should. The total to fix this problem is going to cost in the thousands, which at this moment for us is impossible because like many of us we are out of work. I believe there is an issue with this car transmission. I used to own a 1995 Nissan Maxima with 200,000 miles on it and I never had a problem with the transmission.

This is the first 4 door family type car I have ever owed because I have a 3 year old little girl. If I knew the problems I would be having with it, I would have never bought a Nissan. Anybody that is reading this, do not buy a 2011 or newer Nissan unless the transmission has been replaced. Already mine went out at 110300 miles $5500.00 for a new one. I was told with 1 year warranty. Nissan doesn't care, they really don't, so do not buy a Nissan.

Maxima SV 3.2L V6

No indication this would happen. Car wash well maintained. Shortly after purchasing from CarMax the accessory belt went out. Power steering hose was also leaking. The power steering hose has since rakes or broken 5 more additional times over past 3 years. CarMax just says it's a defect in car and will no longer report being car I out of warranty. Now transmission has failed. Which has once again caused unsafe driving conditions with my children in car. I come to complete stop and car fails to accelerate. No CVT light. Nissan dealership says it's definitely the transmission but would need for me to at diagnosis fees to put it in writing. I still owe on this car and now I'm stuck with car that I cannot drive.

Maxima S 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 104,000 miles

Great car, except for Nissan's CVT transmission.

Car worked great until it started to slip on the freeway. By the time I got to my exit, it wouldn't downshift, and I only made it halfway home (a couple of miles) before I had catastrophic transmission failure and had to have to towed. It was diagnosed with a blown torque converter and the entire transmission needs to be replaced. The cost of the repair is within $1000 of the total value of the car.

Great engine, piece of junk transmission.

Though it was a great car until I lost the transmission at only 100,000 miles. I would have bought another Dodge if I wanted a piece of crap that was gonna breakdown prematurely. You spend all this money thinking it's a step up from what you had, then little do you know it's all the same garbage. First I though it was just me that had this bad luck with the transmission, then I do some Google searching and come across this website thread. I'm not the type to create accounts and write stuff on the internet, but this time I felt like it's worth putting the message out there for others to read what these cars are really worth.

When I first got my 2011 Maxima I was in love😍. It was beautiful. After losing my BMW in a car accident, it still had that same speed and sport like look and feel. I did the maintenance and kept it extremely clean, but 2 weeks ago without warning on my way to work it started jerking. At first I thought it was the tires. You see I had just put front and back brakes and rotors on it 385.00 dollars 3 days before😒. I assumed they didn't put the spacers back in the 22 inch rims that made the car even more beautiful. Did I mention how much I loved this car? Smh anyway I notice it wouldn't reverse, so got out called roadside assistance and caught an Uber to work. Once it was towed to the mechanic I receive the news the CVT transmission had failed and to replace it. It would cost 3,959 dollars !!!! to replace. I'm pisst.

So now I'm stuck without a car, no warranty spending 30 dollars a day in Uber and cabs and collecting tickets on my car and still have to pay the car note smh . After researching I discovered so many people have had the same issues and Nissan pretends like they're unaware of the issue with the CVT transmission. Hopefully enough people will complain and a class action suit or recall will finally be put into action.

Just like the other complaints, my 2011 Maxima transmission locked up, made a grinding noise, and then wouldn't go forward. I'm at 140,000 mil.... What's so irritating is there was no indication that I had a transmission problem. It was completely out of nowhere! I bought this car because of the supposed credibility of the company! never again!! Nissan wants 5k to fix their problem. and a used transmission is 1000 but who knows when that will go out.

Purchased car from George Harte Nissan dealer took the car in for oil change and was told I needed a new transmission. Car has under 75,000 miles and the transmission did not give any previous issue. Car recently started lag and giving problems when you give it gas. I reach out to nissan and was told that they could do nothing because the extended warranty does not apply to 2011 Maxima's. I believe the transmission was defective was told by the dealer it would cost 5700 to get a new transmission 4600 to rebuild the transmission with a one year warranty.

I believe it is unfair that the lawsuit ends at 2010 when there are several other people from 2011 to current having transmission issues and when contacting Nissan they basically say to bad so sad and don't want to help you at all. They want you to bring in to Nissan to pay them to check it and tell you they can't help you are charge you an arm and leg. My shop couldn't even repair it, told me it was a throw away transmission since parts are hell to find. Barely found a new transmission at Nissan to install.

I think they should reimburse us a portion of expense when they knew the transmisson was bad. My car was build in 2010 for 2011 but since my vin wasn't on the list I get screwed out of $4000.00 and a week out of work since I don't have another car to drive and get behind on my bills for the unseen expense. People asked why didn't I just go buy a new car with the money I spent on the transmission. Well I still owe 3 years on my car.

I cannot believe Nissan is just ignoring the CVT problem. Both my daughters have Nissans, a 2011 Maxima and a 2012 Rogue - and both need new transmissions!!!! I called and they agreed there was a recall, for years 2010 and before. But apparently the problem has been FIXED - but not according to the vehicles we have!! I would never, ever, ever, recommend buying a Nissan. If Toyota or Honda asked me to do a commercial for them dissing Nissan I would do it for free.

Maxima SV 3.5L V6

Just wanted to find out if anyone had experienced a sudden transmission failure with a 2011 Nissan Maxima

with a CVT transmission and 112,000 miles. There was a lot of vibration while driving and it seemed like the tires had knots in them. I took it to a Nissan dealer and the technician did a short test drive before it died completely. I thought a transmission would last longer than this.

So Nissan has a problem when the Maxima hits around 75,000 to 90,000 miles and the cvt transmission brakes. No shop in town can fix due to the type of transmission so therefore you have no choice but to install a new tranny or a used. How can I trust this car again, we will be fixing and trading off.

I have owned 8 nissans. called Nissan and told them that, they gave me a claim number. told me I needed to take it to dealership for evaluation. dealer said I didn't do anything wrong, just internal failure was the cause.

Nissan said thanks for all your business in the past but it doesn't mean S##T to us. F you loyal customer, have a nice day. so I paid for 2 tow bills and a check out charge totaling 350 dollars.everybody wins but me.dealer said it would cost 3500 dollars to replace it.THERE CVT TRANSMISSIONS SUCK.

LAW SUIT ALREADY OVER THE 2004 TO 2010 models, they had to double the warranties on them.Hopefully they will get hit with another law suit on 2011 and newer.

Maxima SV

  • CVT transmission
  • 76,000 miles

Purchased a 2011 Nissan Maxima on March 15, 2015. It had been a leased vehicle to someone else prior to me purchasing it. I got a 6 month extended warranty. Less than a month after purchase, I noticed significant hesitation and jerkiness when accelerating, which became worse after I had driven the car for approximately 30 minutes. The service engine light came on and diagnostics at the dealership pointed to the CVT. Several phones calls later (including a heated debate with the warranty company as to whether or not they would cover it "right now" and many to the Clay Cooley Nissan in Colerain, Cincinnati, Ohio), I managed to get a replacement transmission which was fully covered (minus my $50 deductible) under the extended warranty. According to the dealership, they have seen many 2011 Nissan Maximas with transmission issues, yet when I contacted Nissan corporate they refused to accept any responsibility for transmission failure in Nissan Maxima models after 2010, despite issues in model years prior to 2011 (ex. 2010).
