Maxima SVS 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

My Maxima was running good. I really liked the 3.5 engine. I was in a parking lot and the car abruptly shut off and several warning lights came on. I started the car again and attempted to drive off. The car would only move 15 miles an hour. I was able to drive it home and had it towed to a garage. The CVT transmission failed in the car. I found out you cannot fix it, it has to be replaced. A new one costs $5000 plus labor. I wasn't going to spend that kind of money on a car with 130K miles on it. I got a used transmission from a junk yard and had that put in it. It had a 90 day warranty and traded the car before the 90 day warranty was up. I have since found out that Nissan has had a lot of problems the CVT transmissions. That has soured me from ever buying another Nissan. I have a 2006 350Z and haven't had a problem with it. It doesn't have a CVT transmission.
