I was driving on I75 driving around 75 mph when all of a sudden the sunroof exploded. It sounded like a shotgun went off over my head and glass started pouring down on top of me. The sunroof malfunctioned without any warning whatsoever. This was a very jarring event to occur on the interstate of all places. Thankfully, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and exit the interstate using the first available exit and called my insurance company to report the incident.

My car has stopped acceleration while driving 4 times. Had alternator replaced and transmission reprogrammed. It's currently in shop now for issue. Last 3 times nissan repair says they don't see anything wrong. The car remains on and you can ref up engine. Just will not go once in drive. This is a safety issue bc there's no warning sign. Have almost been hit twice due to sudden lost of acceleration. Cars behind me slammed on break once I was in middle of traffic. Very scary situation.

Problem 1. Airbag. Driver's side airbag prematurely failed in 2021. Dealer says requires replacement of driver's seat back at $5K Problem 2. Transmission failed prematurely (77,000 miles) after placing me in multiple dangerous traffic situations. The car would fail to accelerate and eventually stall while I was turning or simply driving. Once it failed to accelerate when I was turning and I was almost struck by oncoming traffic! It was only the grace of God that saved me.

I first experienced this problem before January 2021. While driving the car it will suddenly experience a loss of power while stepping on the gas. It will do this under normal driving conditions. It has done it while I am driving straight on a street or highway or when I am turning a corner. I have narrowly missed being rear-ended or broad sided when it does it. I took it to Ingram Park Nissan in San Antonio January 2021 and they told me the problem was a bad battery. I had them replace it. (I am an over-the road truck driver and don't drive the car very often since I am usually on the road for 2-3 weeks at a time. There are times that I have only driven the car less than 75 miles when I come home and the car won't always lose power.) The car has continued to have the same problem. I took it in to Ancira Nissan at the manufacturers request on 8-3-21. They diagnosed the problem as being a bad battery and alternator. I had them replaced and picked up the car on 8-14-21. While driving the car later on in the evening on 8-14-21 I experienced the same problem. Ancira had the car for 11 days and it is still not fixed. I don't know exactly what component or system is failing and Nissan doesn't seem to know as well. When the problem occurs several lights will come on on the dash (traction control, ABS, air bag, seat belt, a triangle with an exclamation point). There are other Nissan Maxima owners who have posted comments on car websites who are experiencing the same problems. The other owners have said that they have had their cars misdiagnosed by dealers and continue to have the same problem. The problem seems to be mainly happening with 2016 and 2017 Nissan Maximas. I worry that the car will lose power when I least expect it and cause someone to crash into me.

05/21/21--2016 Nissan Maxima with CVT tranmissions problems. No current recalls, but lots of lemon law cases from 2012-2018 with all models except the maxima. Have 94K on it and was driving and it stopped mid street almost threw my son out the front windshield. Took it to Nissan $4800 to replace. Bought vehicle with CVT transmission being sold as "smoothness". but in reality it has been a complete nightmare that Nissan ignores on the maximas.

2016 Nissan Maxima with low mileage of 47,000 miles has a been in and out of the dealers' shop within last 2 years to get dealing with issues such as transmission replaced. Battery charging light and brake indicator light flashing on and off since last car shop visit. Burning smell after driving for a period of time. Dealer service tech claims he doesn't get the flashing light while out test driving vehicle. On 4/7/21, while driving the vehicle stops in middle of parking lot and would not start back up. Having it towed to dealership. Car currently in shop for almost two weeks. It was just discovered today, 4/20/21 the alternator needs to be replace for the 3rd time.

Twice on the highway if had issues where the car accelerated on its own and a few times it's seem to lose power and than compensate and completely launch leading to a quick jerking motion. I'm afraid that it could completely stop on the highway or accelerate into something. Other than that there's no issues but this is concerning since I'm always giving family member rides including a pregnant wife so it needs to be looked into in my opinion it could be a huge disaster if it happens to an inexperienced driver. *also I'm not sure of the exact date of when this happened. I just want to make that known since that's one of the questions asked.

Maxima

  • 68,500 miles
On April 26, 2019 when making a left turn the car did not accelerate as I entered into traffic and instead lost power and would go no more than 9 mph as I applied maximum pressure to the gas pedal. At the same time the car became hard to steer and I was able to pull off onto the side of the road. I immediately turned off the car and restarted it. The car started but without power to accelerate and I shut down the vehicle again. I waited and restarted a few more times and it eventually restarted. I took my car to the Nissan dealership for service and they performed a recall. The same problem happened again on May 9, 2019 and again on May 17, 2019. The vehicle completely loses the ability to accelerate while and has so little power that the max speed is less then 10mph. The vehicle is always in motion happens.

Cruise control drops out while engaged under all road/weather conditions. Dashboard indication "front radar unavailable due to obstruction" seems well documented online for several other Nissan vehicles. In late November 2016 the ABS and other warning lights on my 2016 Nissan Maxima began intermittently appearing on the dashboard. I notified the dealership and was told to mention it during the next service appointment which was scheduled for December 27. At the appointment I was notified of several recalls and the vehicle was kept overnight. When I picked it up the next day the service department indicated that they could not reproduce the issue. I was also notified that there was a recall on an ABS brake actuator pump however the part was back ordered from Nissan. The service department asked me and to take a picture of the dash if the indicator lights appeared again. Approximately 1 week later the lights reappeared and I took the attached photo. I notified the dealership and they indicated they would look at it when the recall part was installed and would schedule an appointment once the part arrived. On January 19, 2017 the car caught fire after sitting for over 2 hours and burned to a total loss. At no time was I notified that the recall was a fire hazard. Since the incident I have filed a case with Nissan however they have taken over a month to respond and by the time they inspect the vehicle it will be over 45 days. The vehicle has been inspected by my insurance company and all indicators point to a defective part.
