  • 69,000 miles
While traveling vehicle began to make very loud noise and began to stall. Had to be towed to mechanic at which time it was determined the transfer case was cracked. As I researched this, I discovered numerous Murano owners with this issue. Vehicle only has 69,000 miles and the cost to repair $4000!

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that those brakes were depressed while approaching a stop signal and the engine stalled without warning. The engine was restarted after shifting into park and then drive. The failure recurred five times while the contact was sitting at a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to locate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

Belt tensioner pulley assembly gets rusted and breaks over time causing the serpentine belt to break during driving possibly breaking power steering pump belt in the process. Steering will freeze or become extremely difficult causing steering failure and an accident.

The vehicle was able to be driven to the dealer where it was found that the engine had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that there was a small delay in accelerator response time. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 09V169000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 166,280 and the current mileage was 166,311.
