2005 Nissan Murano has faulty electronic locks. Viewed as a safety issue as it prevents the ability to get in and/or out in a quick and efficient manner should there be an emergency. The door will not unlock/lock using the electronic devices or buttons and in order to unlock the door you have to open another door and reach over and manually unlock. I have significant concerns related to my and my family's safety in the vehicle. After research it appears that this problem is common and Nissan is not taking any responsibility to replace or repair causing significant (up to $1600) finacial cost to the owner.

2005 Nissan Murano. Front driver side door will not lock or unlock with keyless entry, outside electronic door button, or most importantly, the manual lock inside the car. Only way to lock door is with key. So to lock door once in car, must open window, awkwardly insert key into outside door keyhole while inside car, and then twist key. In case of accident or emergency, cannot unlock the front door driver side without using key from the inside, which may be impossible depending on conditions of emergency or accident. According to many hundreds of complaints on internet, dealers want from $500 to $600 to repair even to fix the manual locking process for the door. This amount is prohibitive form many people for what should be a simple fix of less than a hundred dollars for at least the manual locking process. The electronic locking system is a luxury item, but the manual locking system is being held hostage by the dealers and in my opinion, presents a huge safety problem.

Drivers side door actuator has failed on 2005 Murano. You never know whether the door has actually locked or not when locking the vehicle using the remote or exterior electrical door button upon leaving it. If inside the vehicle, and doors are locked using the electrical button on the driver side door, drivers side door may or may not lock. This is a serious safety problem if there is a threat from a person outside the vehicle. It is also leaves the vehicle vulnerable to theft while away from the vehicle. Dealer would not cover under warranty or extended warranty, wants excessive charge to repair.

My Murano power door actuators in passenger front door and trunk malfunctioned during warranty period and needed to replace. After warranty three remaining door actuators are having constant problems not locking / unlocking. Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. It's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. Remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. The drive "thinks" the door is locked, when in reality it's an "open door" for carjacking or robbery. This failure is an intermittent of operation. Sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. in addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. in emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. Since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. And the Murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. I can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. In emergencies every second counts. The locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. Some people who cannot afford the $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced (as quoted by dealers) will forgo getting them fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. This shouldn't be, Nissan should recall them.

Door locks does not work as intended having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. When locking the doors it's imperative nobody can gain access at will by walking up to the car. I have a Nissan Murano 2005 I noticed 9-13-2010 my back passenger doors would not lock or unlock with the inside switch or with the remote I went to the Nissan store they wanted to charge me $115 just to check it out I refused I went to advance auto parts store and auto zone they couldn't figure out why just those two doors are acting this way I don't have money to just give someone to check the problem I need to know the problem. I work and go to school I can not leave those two buildings to check and see if someone has broken into my car every minute because the doors don't lock or unlock it's unsafe for me and my children and I have a disabled child as well I paid too much money to purchase this nice vehicle I want every little thing to work properly for me and my family considering I haven't had it a year yet.

Lock on driver side door failed and does not lock or unlock properly. Makes this unsafe at night as I work a night job and if the car did not lock properly could be safety issue, also getting into the car as the Murano is designed to be keyless, in a hurry to take the key off the key fob is time consuming and in a panic usage. Locks just stopped working after had been working fine. I feel this is a safety issue and Nissan should repair free of charge, as many other people have had same issue, I have never heard of so many of same complaints from other car makers.

2005 Nissan Murano door locks fail to lock and unlock. I have a 2005 Murano and the door locks recently have stopped working. The lock will not lock or unlock with the remote or with the door lock button on driver or passenger door. This is even a bigger problem having a 2 year old in the vehicle and the only way to unlock the door is manually. Since there is no key hole on the rear doors you have to climb through the vehicle to lock the door. I can't even lock the door if she manually moves the lock with her hand I can't lock it from the driver side control. The problem started with the driver lock, then progressed to the rear right door, now three of the 4 doors are affected and also the rear hatch. It is not an option to open if you can't use the unlock button. There is no manual release button to unlock the hatch. This can a public problem for ever attempting to get a child out of a car in the case of any emergency.

Three of the door actuators that control the automatic locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano are not working. One of them has been broken for a year, the other two just went. This is a safety issue, and judging from how many other people have this problem with the same car, Nissan should provide replacements for these. If I do it myself it will cost well over $1,000, and there's no telling when the other two locks will go. Right now, the two door locks that are broken have to be opened from inside manually. The back tailgate cannot open at all, as the actuator is the only way I know of being able to unlock it.
