Drivers seat is broken on 2005 Nissan Murano. There doesn't seem to be a recall in place when it should be. There are many people with the same issue. And it is clearly a design/manufacture issue.

One of the four mounting points on the driver seat of my 2005 Nissan Murano has failed. The rear-outboard mount has cracked and broke in two pieces. The driver seat is no longer safely secured to the body of the car. Numerous members of the nissanmurano.org website have reported this very same problem. The dealers have refused to address the problem and are asking for just over $1,000 to fix it. The consumer stated the seat anchor was broken. Updated 05/20/09.

The metal frame on the power drivers seat has broken, causing a rocking-chair affect. While this is only moderately dangerous as it is now, the other pair of welds (assuming they are welds) on the seat frame can snap causing the seat to break free from the frame. A quick search on the internet finds that there are numerous Nissan Murano owners w/ the same issue.. and Nissan dealerships are not repairing under warranty, but making "good will adjustments" if the individual dealership is so inclined. In my opinion this is a significant safety risk and needs to be looked into. Thanks.

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. When the contact sat down in the driver's seat, the seat extended to the back seat inadvertently. He exited the vehicle and noticed that the seat frame failed. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and they could not determine what caused the failure. The driver's seat was replaced. Approximately one year later, the driver's seat frame failed again. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The current mileage was 115,000 and failure mileage was 51,524.

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano sl AWD and earlier this year the drivers seat has started to rock back and forth. My wife is 5'2 and I am 6'2 so there is a need to move the power seat regularly. The seat now sits slightly left to right or right to left. The Nissan Murano forum has indicated that this has been a problem from the 2003 edition and still continues to be. My car is out of warranty so it would be a $1000 repair out of pocket. This is an unsafe situation and apparently caused by the seat base metal breaking. There are great pictures of this on the forum site. Nissan hasn't recalled this and it is obviously a safety concern.

The driver's seat on my 05 Murano moves forward when braking, and moves backward when accelerating. Play in the seat is approximately 3/4". the movement occurs 100% of the time and has been getting worse over time. The nylon drive gear is worn. The dealer claims it is a safety issue and has to be replaced, but they require replacement of the entire seat frame. The cost is $1100.

My boyfriend was driving my car on the I-10 when he suddenly heard a loud crack and the seat was suddenly lopsided. I therefore brought the car into my local Nissan dealership to see about having it repaired and if my warranty would cover it. I was informed that parts and labor would cost $846, I also had to pay the $90 whether or not I was going to have it repaired. I contacted my warranty company and was told that after careful consideration they would not cover it because it happened after the 36000 mile. My car had roughly 60K miles at the time of the occurrence. I now have to ride with two large phone books under my seat in order to drive. I asked that a supervisor contact me and no one ever did. I now have 72K miles and would like to see about repairing this before it hits 100K. I am not quite sure of the date but I do know that it was sometime in January.

The driver seat on my 2005 Nissan Murano broke for no reason on the mount that attaches it to the floor causing the entire seat to sway when accelerating and making turns. The vehicle has only 65000 miles and in spite of it being past the warranty period, I believe that the manufacturer should be responsible for defective merchandise that are design-related and pertaining to safety. The local dealership won't repair it since Nissan corporation declined to pay for it. They however insist that I get the entire seat frame replaced at a cost of approximately $1200 dollars. The local dealership has received 3 cases just like this and only one of them was accepted by Nissan. I don't know what my rights are in this case but a defective seat is different from other moving parts on the vehicle that wear with time.

Message to all Nissan Murano drivers, drivers seat is built on a welded frame, and even though the vehicle has a reverse camera we all still tend to look over our shoulders to check whist reversing, (which we should!) putting pressure on the frame of the seat and causing it to break the seat welding and causing a mal-function which in the majority of cases will not be at very high speeds, a further problem occurs when drivers don't realize and continue to drive, creating a much greater danger.

Back in February, 2008, the driver's seat on my 2005 Murano malfunctioned--specifically, the seat was not loose, but all of a sudden would not slide forward on the right side thereby creating a grinding noise and a slight and unnatural swivel of the seat to the left. I took it to the dealership for repair. Part number 87450-CA684 was the "offending" part per my invoice. All other power seat features were operating fine. I asked the service manager what would cause this and he said he didn't know, but they had seen 5 such incidents in the past 2 months. This got me wondering if this was a widespread issue. So, I found a Nissan online club of owners reporting seat failures. I have been tracking this for months and now have gotten to the point where I believe this is a serious issue that deserves reporting and NHTSA attention. Fortunately, my repair was covered under my extended warranty sans a $50 deductible. But, consistent with all these postings, the service manager indicated this is typically a $700 repair. While I accept that things break, I, too, am disappointed, but as I indicated more and more concerned after reading post after post at this site (please goto townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx/.F14ec7A?displayrecent) for all the posts. As an fyi, the broken part is not available.

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. While driving 40 mph, the driver's seat fell backwards with a loud snap. The contact swerved and crossed into another lane. He was able to avoid a crash. He pulled onto the shoulder to check the seat and noticed that the seat metal support bracket was split in half. The dealer is charging $932 for the repair. A report was filed with the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle's warranty was expired; therefore, they would not assist. The failure and current mileages were 72,000.
