The high-pressure power steering hose fails at crimp of rubber hose onto the banjo fitting at the power steering pump. Constantly leaked ATF (Nissan spec for power steering fluid) when steering was used. Backing up a trailer would cause excessive trails of ATF fluid to leak out.
Replacement requires removing upper cowl to get access to a single 12mm bolt for the bracket that attaches to the rear of the intake manifold. The repair took approximately 5 hours with the use of a lift. The car had to be raised and lowered multiple times to snake the hose up from the driver's side to the intake manifold bolt and then back down to the power steering pump on the passenger side.
Recommend purchasing a hose that comes with new brackets instead of re-using the brackets on the leaking hose, and do not re-use the copper crush washers.

This is shown to be a reoccurring problem with the Murano. It appears that the Nissan purchasing department cut corners when they bought a less than reliable power steering hose.

Having to put power steering fluid in multiple times a day, brought the car to the dealer we purchased it from and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. My husband brought the car home and it was hard to steer made a high pitched squealing sound, and later I drove it and it was much worse. We have started buying power steering fluid weekly, and brought it back to the dealer 3 more times and they keep telling us that it is different things, like sensors that are not reading accurately, and they also said that the line was loose.
Then they finally said they found a leak in the hose and because it was small all we needed to do was to add high grade power steering fluid and it would fix it, but it did not. We have since gone to another garage to have them look at the vehicle and they say that my car has a ton of things wrong with it and now I need to replace the entire power steering line/hose and pressure pump. This leaks everyday and requires me to fill it multiple times a day, try using another kind of material and stop using the cheap material you have been using and maybe the things won't break as easily as they have been.

From what I understand. The leak is caused by on of the connecters that attach the hose to the frame of the car.Can not see the leak. Have to fill the steering fluid weakly. Had car into Nissan of Newton, in Newton MA. for an oil change, told Mechanic there was a leak, he could not find a leak. Do see fluid on the area where I park the car but can not see where the leak is.
Problem. If my wife was on a trip, and fluid leaked out, there would be no steering and could cause an accident.

Had oil change from dealership, two weeks later noise from power steering.
Found it needed fluid.
So far have used one container of PS Fluid.
Just purchased another until I can afford to have car repaired.
Checked on line and found this is a problem and there is no recall nor is it covered under warranty.

It is surprising that in 2007 Murano Power steering hose goes bad on just 61K miles. Nissan should take some steps or recall vehicles when they know that it is an existing issue in most of the Murano. Worst part is car goes out of warranty on 60K miles and On 61K steering hose goes bad and start leaking.. Nissan knows this truth but looks like they want to take any action the same.

My brand new 2007 Nissan Murano cost US $40000+.
After almost 15 years, I only have 90000 miles. This car is always parked in our attached garage to protect it from inclement weather as well as adverse temperatures, and we always use public transportation for commute.
Even after regular oil changes, service and maintenance, this car had not just expensive repairs but some critical life threatening repairs like the power steering fluid leak which can cause an explosion (according to the dealer itself). In all, just for the repairs alone, I have paid over $24000+ to date.
Nissan North America seems to be unconcerned about the safety of every customer, and have not issued any recall on the critical life threatening power steering fluid leak on the 2007 Nissan Murano, even though thousands of Nissan Murano cars in the subsequent years were recalled for this inherent power steering hose (made out of CHEAP RUBBER).
I have paid US $4000 since September 23rd, 2021 - USD $1900 (for Power steering pump repair + Cam Shaft) and now new repairs are all related to the power steering leak according to the dealer (October 27th 2021 - $2100 for the Front Catalytic Converter). Now my car has been with the Nissan dealer for over 10 days. I did not get any answers straight out of the diagnosis... they keep asking me to change this part and that part...
Today when I tried to reach them, the guy looses his cool and complains that there are a lot of Nissan cars with a lot of issues and again says that my car is too old and I should just keep doing the repairs recommended. I don't know if I should take my car to this dealer again!
When customers who are not auto body experts look at the car, they can never determine what parts constitute the car and how safely they are made! I raised my concerns to Nissan North America on October 15th 2021 in the form of an email, which is:
"Nissan North America...It is with absolute sense of insecurity about my first and only Nissan car, ... I am drafting this email....PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO THE CORRECT DEPARTMENT and escalate to NISSAN CEO... Power steering fluid leak has caused hazardous driving conditions for my 2007 Nissan Murano a few years back...unfortunately I have this unsafe pertinent condition, within just another 30000 miles.
"My car's control froze while I had to make a turn and I almost crashed head on into a vehicle that had stopped at a red signal .... On top of this, my car abruptly stopped 4-5 times in the middle of the highway.... God's grace, I escaped with my 3 little children all in the backseat. Dealer is unable to diagnose the actual problem on what is happening with the car...why it wouldn't stop jumping when accelerated after stopping on a signal?....why are there jitters on the steering wheel when driven over 55-60+ miles?...why does it send service engine signals so often? Dealer keeps telling me I had to replace this...replace that to avoid explosion....Please see the most recent invoices attached...
"In all, I have spent $40000 (initial price) + over $20000 (in maintenance) since 2007 just for the only 90000 miles for this unsafe and unreliable car... Please help ASAP as the inherent issues still remain unfixed and I am taking my car again to the Edison dealer today, despite my busy schedule!"
--------------------------------- Nissan North America simply simply is unwilling to help citing the age of my car. This was their reply on October 25th 2021:
"Thank you for contacting Nissan North America and allowing us an opportunity to review the concern with your 2007 Nissan Murano. As a company interested in winning lifetime customers, Nissan regrets any inconvenience you may have experienced, and we are pleased you took the time to contact us.
"Nissan carefully considered your request and reviewed all available facts pertaining to your specific situation. As discussed on 10/25/21, Nissan is not in the position to offer assistance towards the power steering fluid leak or catalytic converter repairs and not able to escalate your Case any further, as you have contacted the Executive Level and I will be your highest point of contact.
"We sincerely apologize that a more favorable response cannot be provided, and we hope that you understand our position.
Sincerely, Nissan"

I feel absolutely deceived. As I am trying hard to call the dealer who is making a lot of money through expensive repairs like the one I am facing at present, and while Nissan North America does not care at all to analyze anything, all I hear is you are out of warranty... and your vehicle is old...
I do not recommend anyone buying a Nissan Murano!
