I bought my 2007 Nissan Murano at 77,000 miles at Woodmen Nissan. After driving it for only about 5 months I was informed that there was a serious leak. I had taken my car into the dealer twice the month before detecting the leak and both times there was a complimentary "127 point inspection" done and neither time did they find the leak. Anyways, after having to physically go in to the bay and under my car on the lift to point out to the "professional mechanics" where the leak was, they quoted me $1700 to replace the transfer case because the leak was due to several seals within the case leaking.

After months of contemplating taking the hit and paying out of pocket I finally went into the dealer and sat down with a manager. I had been told about two weeks prior to the sit down, that the extended AUL powertrain warranty I purchased does not cover this issue because the "seal & gaskets" box was not checked on the form when purchased. The incompetent employee who had presented (vaguely) the warranty and financing information to me had since been fired for reasons unknown. But I fought that had he given me the proper and complete information along with options I could add to the warranty, I definitely would have taken them for I am as cautious as they come. I felt that the leak had been an issue from the day they sold me the car, they preyed on me being a young girl with little mechanical knowledge and were not taking responsibility in the issue. The manager tried to put it off as an issue I'd need to take up with AUL warranty company but I insisted that it is not their problem but the dealer who sold it to me and the man who failed to properly inform me of my options. Needless to say, I didn't end up paying for any of the repair. I agreed to pay $100 to AUL to add the "Seals & gaskets" and that was all. The dealer replaced my transfer case and I have not had an issue since.

I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED AMERICAN CARS AND ALL HAVE BEEN MANUAL TRANSMISSION. MY CAR A 2001 FORD ESCAPE DECIDED TO WANT TO REALLY ESCAPE TO INFINITY SO I PUT HIM TO SLEEP AND TRADED FOR A 2007 NISSAN MURANO. I GOT IT FROM SMITH BEV KIA. EVERYONE WAS NICE AND REASSURED ME THAT THE CAR WAS GREAT. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE I TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC THE SAME DAY I PICKED IT UP FROM THE DEALER AND ALREADY THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY MECHANIC HEARD A SMALL WHINING SOUND AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE DEALER CHECK THE TRANSMISSION ALSO IT WAS NOT CHANGING GEARS.

I TOLD THE DEALER AND TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR 5 HOURS. ON THE 28TH I HEARD A NOISE SOUNDING LIKE IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE. I WAS REALLY SCARED SO I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND THAT WHINING SOUND WAS THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT SINCE I DIDN'T PURCHASE THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT THEY WILL TAKE THE CAR IN AS A TRADE. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM TO THEM WHEN I WAS STILL UNDER THE 90 DAY DEALER WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR THESE CARS TO MAKE THAT NOISE.

WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME WAS THE INSISTENCE IN PUTTING ME INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. I PAID CASH FOR THIS CAR AND I WANT THE RIGHT THING TO BE DONE I EVEN OFFERED TO BUY THE PARTS SO THEY CAN FIX IT THEY STILL WANTED ME TO TRADE IN. I GOT THIS CAR 7 MONTHS AGO. DOES THE LEMON LAW PROTECT ME? IS THERE A WARRANTY THAT I CAN GET THAT CAN HELP ME TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? ANY COMMENTS OR HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

At 36,000mil, oil leak through transfer case seal was found. Replaced seal at a Nissan dealer. Cost was covered by warranty back then. At 46,000mil (about 18 months later), oil leak through transfer case seal was found, again. The car is no longer under warranty. Independent shop gave me a repair quote of almost $2,000. Quote from a Nissan dealer might be twice as much. Search the web and you will find almost all Nissan Murano owners complaining about this transfer case seal leak issue. Not sure why Nissan's not doing anything about it. Even the independent shop's mechanic told me it was a very common problem.
