The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard without warning. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred on slick roadways or after traveling over a bump. At times, in order to stop the vehicle, the contact would have to turn off the engine and restart it in order for the vehicle to operate correctly. The vehicle was taken to williams woody Nissan (3600 S limit ave, sedalia, mo 65301, (660) 827-1403), but no failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was informed by the dealer to drive to any dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing when the failure recurred. Without turning off the vehicle, no failure codes would be detected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a Nissan dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.

My 2009 Nissan Murano has 78,000 miles on it. Sometimes if I brake on a bumpy road the pedal goes all the way to the floor and brake power is significantly reduced. Nobody can tell me why this is happening. I've had the fluid system flushed and the brakes checked. Not even Nissan's dealership understands. Please do something.

While driving the vehicle routinely in town, suddenly the brake pedal became very soft and braking ability was severely impaired. Pedal travel was very high, with pedal almost to the floor before braking could be obtained, and braking power was very low. Vehicle was successfully stopped, and turned off. The brake pedal was pumped with the vehicle turned off, and brake pressure returned. Restarted vehicle and braking system appeared to operate normally. This is the second incident of braking problems with this particular vehicle. See report 1072367 for details of a prior braking failure approximately 1 year earlier.

In the spring of 2017 I was driving the vehicle on a rainy day and applied the brakes sufficient to trigger the ABS system. This resulted in a significant loss of braking ability, with the brake pedal almost to the floor before limited braking action could be obtained. The ability to stop the vehicle was dramatically reduced. The problem went away following a hard brake application on loose gravel, sufficient to trigger the ABS system again. Date listed for this problem is approximate.

The brakes in my 2009 Nissan Murano intermittently fail about once or twice a month. The brake failure, which began to occur sometime on or after mid-2017, causes the brake pedal to lose pressure, becoming 'spongy' making it difficult to stop. When the brake failure occurs no warning lights or ABS lights light up and no error codes are set. The condition may last anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours and then returns normal. I have taken the vehicle to be serviced at least twice, however the shop cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. As a precaution, I had the brake system flushed and bleeded and replaced all 4 brake pads, however, the brake failure continues to occur.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving 35 mph and attempting to apply the brakes, the anti-lock brake module failed. The contact had to use the emergency brakes to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ABS module failed. The dealer (ken garff Nissan salt lake, 777 S w temple, salt lake city, ut 84101) was notified. The vehicle was partially repaired until the contact could take it to coulter Nissan (13301 N autoshow ave, surprise, AZ 85388) where the repairs were completed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 94,000. The consumer stated the there was a recall issued for other Muranos.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was applied, but the brakes failed to respond. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to fuccillo Nissan (3893 state route 31, liverpool, NY 13090) where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact searched online and believed the brake actuator needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 22,000.

The ABS actuator in my car began to fail and had to be replaced by Nissan. When tapping the brake pedal, it continued to have pressure and properly slow the car. However, when approaching stop lights, stop signs, or otherwise braking hard (anything requiring me to apply more steady pressure to the brakes), the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor requiring me to increase my stopping distance. I was in a near-accident incident when someone who was stopped in the adjacent lane quickly pulled over into my lane, requiring me to apply rapid brake pressure. This situation was made worse by icy roads and left me panicked and concerned. The cost of the repair was $2,500.

On 1/15/18, I was driving to work on a snowy day. I was slowing down to take a left onto an on ramp when my ABS kicked in. I continued to slide forward and nearly missed the on ramp. From that point forward, the brake pedal has been "soft." I have to push the pedal down at least halfway before any braking occurs and typically have to push it to the floor to fully stop. I just got new brake pads and rotors in December, so these components are fine. I took it in to Nissan servicing, who told me that the ABS actuator is bad and needs to be replaced. They have informed me that the vehicle is no longer safe to drive until this is repaired, which was estimated to be a cost of ~$2700 for parts and labor.

On January 7, 2018 I was approaching a stop sign and the street was a bit icy so when I applied the brakes the ABS kicked in and the vehicle stopped with no problem. However, when I applied the brakes again a couple of blocks down the road the brake pedal went clear to the floor and the vehicle slowly stopped. This problem continued the rest of the drive home, with the brake pedal going all the way to the floor. Pumping the brakes seemed to help some and there was resistance from the pedal, but when coming to a complete stop the pedal again went all the way to the floor. This continued for a couple days. After some research online I discovered this was a common complaint for 2009 Nissan Muranos. I found several online forums that described the same problem, the soft spongy brake pedal, either after an ABS stop or using the brakes for a bump or pothole. And it seemed like the most common solution to this problem was to replace the ABS actuator at a cost of approx. $2500. Not what I wanted to hear. I took my Nissan to a repair shop and they verified that this indeed was the problem so without much other choice we had the actuator replaced for $2450 - invoice attached. From what I could tell, this issue has been a problem and has been reported by a number of drivers to the NHTSA beginning in 2012. There is an investigation ongoing (started in 2014) but so far no recall. This is a dangerous issue and needs to be addressed asap before someone's brakes fail completely and they are injured or killed.

The brake pedal all of a sudden travels all the way to the floorboard. This excessive travel happened while driving on a busy street. The brakes did finally slowed my vehicle but very close to causing an accident. Took the vehicle in for estimate and repair. Estimate the next day was replace ABS control module, flushing fluid, etc. Of $3400. The 2009 Murano is only 84,000 miles and should not have a problem with the automatic bracing system. This could have been a very serious accident. I understand this is an ongoing problem!!! why hasn't there been a recall?

My wife and daughter have had issues with the brakes going all the way down and not stopping the vehicle on more than one occasion. I have contacted Nissan with this issue and they said they would have to replicate the problem to resolve it. The hard part is this is totally random. Driving this car is like playing russian roulette. Both times my wife and daughter were driving, applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign and the peddle went all the way to the floor. Luckily no one was around. Both incidents they kept pumping the brakes until they started working again. I brought the possible recall up to the service tech and he asked for the VIN and said the vehicle does not have any recalls at this moment. So are we suppose to drive the vehicle and hope the brakes do not fail" this is a major safety issue and we are at the point of trading in the vehicle and never buying a Nissan again if that's how they treat the safety of their Nissan owners. By the looks of these reports, more and more drivers are starting to complain. Why is it taking so long to announce recall when the lack of doing so could possibly take someone's life"

Soft brake pedal after hitting a bump. November 2016 I was going into a parking lot, as I was coming off of the pavement going onto the gravel my ABS engaged and the brake pedal went to the floor. I called my Nissan dealership and they felt that when I shut the car off, all systems should reset. When I did that, systems did reset and my brakes returned to normal. This has happened 3 more times since, the last time was in October 2017 and the system or ABS and the soft brake issues has not reset. To this point, I have always had some brakes, though the pedal goes almost to the floor each time used. My wife, and daughter, when they drive the car, feel there are no brakes. I guess I have gotten somewhat used to them. I am convinced that something needs to be repaired, but I am reading that it may cost between $1500, and $2400 to repair. The issue is very serious because I have read that some brakes have failed and caused accidents and occupants have been injured. I feel a recall by Nissan should take place, to help get these issues resolved. The issue is very expensive for us as owners to fix on our own especially when the value of the vehicle is so low. Would like to trade vehicle off, but being honest would be hard to pass issue onto the next owner. Currently, the brake pedal still remains soft and almost goes to the floor board of the vehicle.

As I approached a stop, wanting to make a turn, there was a light patch of ice. I applied the brakes normally & pedal sunk to the floor & I almost crashed, luckily there were no other cars in my path. This is a huge safety issue. I am a commercial truck driver & had never heard of losing brakes to this issue before. I properly maintain my cars.took my 09 Murano to a mechanic. & told me it was most likely the ABS module $2000 just the part, or the master brake cylinder $150 just the part. Replaced the master cylinder. & still not fixed. Problem was the ABS module. Nissan needs to do a recall before someone is injured or killed do to this. Even though the main Focus is sadly on quarterly numbers gains/losses. I had reached out to Nissan & didnt hear back from them. Guess it wouldve been different if I had said I was looking to buy a car.

Brakes failed to stop vehicle when applied during moderate suspension travel (up/down) from bumps in roadway - similar to travelling across small speed bump. Must pump brake repeatedly to stop vehicle. Incident occurred at most any speed including highway travel. Dealership could not duplicate but did replace the master brake assembly however it did not resolve the problem. Vehicle returned to dealership when it failed to move after shifting into gear. Problem traced to brake booster failure. Local mechanic completed the repair which has resolved both problems - brake issues have not occurred since this repair.

The vehicle has become unsafe to drive due to the unpredictable braking/delayed stopping behavior. Taking to Nissan dealer tomorrow for further investigation. Likely related to investigation under PE 17-002.

Brake pedal goes all the way down and vehicle does not stop. I notice online that a lot of customers are having the same problem with this year and vehicle model. I have read how they had to spend a lot of money on parts and labor because the mechanics couldn't figure out the problem, so they started during power of elimination. I had my mechanic try to find out what was wrong and he tried replacing master cylinder which cost me several hundreds of dollars and the problem remained. I then took it to Nissan dealership and they said it was the ABS hydraulic control unit which would cost me $3000 dollars parts and labor, the part a lone cost $1900 dollars. During my investigation many many people are having the same problem and it is said that a recall may be being looked at. Consumers are getting in to car accidents because of this faulty brake system and it seems that no one will address until someone dies. There are no warning lights on the ABS system nor does the dealership knows why this is happening.to charge this much for a part is totally ridiculous!!! feel free to call me at anytime for more details on this issue [xxx] denver Colorado consumer. I may take further actions if this issue is not address, at the end of the day it should be safety first!!! not making quotas and paying investors. Vehicle in forward motion...slow, leaving garage. Brake pedal went to floor. Did not "pump up" as with air in lines during drive through an alleyway. Dealership verified my concern and found ABS actuator failed internally. Of note: The service attendant suspected what was wrong before the car was diagnosed in the shop. "have seen this before." Why was my 2009 model not included in a later recall? I believe the part failure is a serious safety concern.
