Recently had to replace the anti-lock brake (ABS) actuator pump on my 2009 Nissan Murano. The vehicle started up fine with no problems and was able to make it to the highway with no issue at all. It was late at night so there was no traffic at all and we were traveling for about 30 minutes on cruise control (no need to brake) until we needed to exit. When we were trying to exit the highway I noticed there was now a very low pedal, I had to put the pedal all the way to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. There was no warning lights or notification of a failure. We went to the dealership and found out that the ABS actuator pump needed to be replaced. We were told that they recently have been replacing several of these actuator pumps on the Muranos.

When braking the pedal has little effect upon stopping. It slows the car some at top of stroke then half stroke stops better then sinks to floor. When stopping on a rough road the ABS does not work proper and the pedal will sink to floor and tires will lock and not release causing a skid. When you are stopped can build pressure in system but when started and then move and come to stop the car will slow and pedal will slowly sink towards the floor and lock the brakes when almost at bottom. This just happened on 1-4-2018. Something should be done have found a lot of the same complaints on different sites.

Two times my 2009 Nissan Murano has had brake issues after the ABS was engaged. The first time I was trying to stop at a corner. There was a little bit of snow on the ground. My ABS engaged and then I couldn't stop at all. I was able to take a right at the intersection and realized that the only way I could stop my vehicle was to depress the brake pedal completely to the floor. Never before had I been able to depress it that far. I pulled the car over and shut it off. After depressing the brake pedal 3 times it felt like normal. I brought the car to our mechanic and he said there was nothing structurally wrong with our brakes. 2 weeks later my husband was trying to stop at a corner when it was the snowing and the same thing happened again. He pulled it over, shut down the car, pumped the pedal and it came back to normal. When I got home I googled this problem and saw all of these people with the same issue. I can't believe that neither Nissan or the government has done anything yet. Are they waiting for a fatality?

I was driving at 25 mph and went to stop at light and the brake pedal became spongy and went to the floor. I was able to pump it back up but it happened again 3 times that trip. I was not able to replicate it. But am terrified I will have an accident. That would be awful especially if someone else was involved/injured.

Brakes went to floor. As I came to a stop light almost hit car in front of me. Originally diagnosed as a bad master cylinder. No warning lights at all. Changed master cylinder and problem was not fixed. Dealership diagnosed it as a bad ABS actuator. Was told they would gladly fix it for $2200. Looks like I am not the only one who is having the same problem. Have been told bt local mechanics they see this problem all of the time and Nissan has done nothing about it. Recall needs to be done asap.

Unpredictable behavior when applying brakes. Pedal very soft. Brakes done work properly regardless of whether vehicle is moving or not. I'm concerned that this may lead to an accident. Pads are new. System has no leaks or air bubbles.

I have less than 57,000 miles on my 2009 Murano. At 46,000 miles, I had to have my failed transmission replaced and I'm having issues again with it slipping into low gear. The dealership couldn't reproduce the issue, so nothing has been done to address it. I had to take my Murano in for service again because I almost got into an accident when my brakes didn't work at 30 mph and I had to quickly change lanes to avoid an accident. There wasn't any brake pressure and I had to push the brake peddle to the floor before it stopped.

On 11/15/17 the brake pedal went to the floor on our 2009 Nissan Murano when stopping at an intersection. It was raining at the time. The brakes continued to go to the floor when attempting to stop multiple times for about 2 miles. Turned car off and back on with same result. Towed to our local mechanics who found nothing wrong mechanically but found codes in the ABS system. Brake pedal returned to normal function on its own. Mechanics left codes and recommended to take to Nissan dealership. Took to dealership 11/27/17. Dealership stated that the only codes found in ABS system were old and did not indicate brake problem. No defects found. Dealership recommended to bring back if it happens again. Problem occurred again, this time in our driveway with snow. Towed the Murano to the dealership on 12/13/17. Description from dealership read, "found brake pedal very soft and low. No leaks found in brake system, no codes found in ABS ECU. Brake pressure does not pump up. No air in system and back of master cylinder is dry. Brake booster passes all testing, also pedal is low when car is off, so booster not fault. Internal hydraulic pressure failure in either the master cylinder or ABS actuator. Cannot test either component separate. No bulletins, but many reports in database search of ABS actuator/S causing this exact problem." Cost $2,481.53 to replace actuator. Just picked up today and will be very cautious with vehicle having lost confidence in it. It is very concerning that there was nothing to indicate a problem (no alarms, lights, warnings) before this issue occurred both times.

My vehicle has only 84,400 miles it and is well mantained also. I have noticed that my brake petal is being pushed to the floor to stop. It is taking a long time for the vehicle to stop, a lot of times I am pumping my brakes. I recently had my brakes check, assuming that their was a problem or it was time for me to get brakes and was advised that they were fine.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving various speeds over a bump or gravel pavement, the brake pedal had to be depressed all the way to the floorboard in order to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dave smith Nissan (6901 E sprague ave, spokane, wa 99212, (509) 924-6242) several times where it was diagnosed with air in the brakes. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact found that the failure was under investigation with NHTSA per NHTSA action number: PE17002 (service brakes, air. Service brakes). The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

Loss of brake pressure following ABS activation. The vehicle was in motion on a city street and was not turning. The roads were partially snow covered and when trying to stop the vehicle the ABS activated. Following this event, the brake pedal traveled 3/4's if the way to the floor before the vehicle would begin to slow down. When I returned home, I repeatedly pumped the brakes until normal brake pressure was achieved. Brake fluid level was full and no leak was found upon inspection of brake system.

Vehicle brake pedal very soft, spongy, and squishy at all times (even with new brake pads, rotors, and properly bleed lines). Have lost brakes at one point completely, brake pedal touched ground. I tried to slow down on totally normal road conditions, my ABS engaged, but the pedal went to the floor and did not return. The top 10% of the pedal gives me 10% braking power, the middle 80% of the pedal travel does nothing, and only the bottom 10% of the pedal, just before it touches the floor, actually provides any real braking. As a result, the reaction time and stopping distance is terrible. This will cause an accident at some point. NHTSA is investigating, but needs to act and issue a recall for 2009 Murano immediately.

The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.

Driving to work in regular commuter traffic, stop and go, approximately 15 to 20 mph. I went over a small bump in the road while I was slowing down, and immediately the brake pedal went to the floor. Stopping distance was severely impacted. I would have rear-ended the person in front of me had traffic not moved forward by that point. Brakes remain very poor, with no real brake pressure until the bottom 10% of pedal travel. ABS sensor is locked into the "release" position now, and as a result, the pedal has to travel all the way to the floor before seeing any impact to the car speed. If this had happened in a school parking lot, I would have run over a child. Please please issue a recall for this ABS module that is failing on 2009 Muranos. There are so many people who are having the same problem. It is only a matter of time until someone is killed or injured. The repair costs are over $2,500 for a new part, which most people cannot afford given that the car is 8 years old and probably only worth $10,000. Mine has 60,000 miles and has always been well taken care of, so this is not an age thing - it is a 2009 model year problem. Please issue a recall asap. If a major accident occurs and you are aware of this problem, then you are culpable.

Started about 6 month ago, when I press the brake to stop at red light, it suddently lose pressure, my brake paddle went to the floor, the car stopped about few feet further than normal. I steer to the side to avoid hit the car in front. Then I drove again, brake back to normal. Happen 2 more time again couple months later. Then a month ago, it stayed until I got to work about 20 miles away. Back to normal after work. Now, I have this problem again, and it stay like that for 2 days now, won't go away. I have to brake real far away to stop the car. The vehicle stop longer distance, and my brake went all the way to the floor.

While driving my Murano and coming up to a stoplight the brakes for no apparent reason were suddenly extremely soft that I had to almost fully depress the brake pedal to the floor to get the car to stop. I was able to get the car stopped before I entered the intersection and no accident occurred. I took the car to my local auto shop and they diagnosed as the ABS unit failed but I would have to go to dealer. Went to Nissan dealer who did diagnostics test which indicated a brake master cylinder failure even though I suggested it was the ABS unit that had failed based on my mechanics diagnoses. Dealer replaced brake master cylinder but did not correct the brake problem. They then replaced the ABS hydraulic unit which did cause problem to go away. Total repair cost was $2,479. We have a second 2009 Nissan Murano that just had the exact same thing happen to its brakes. There is clearly a failure in the ABS braking system that Nissan is clearly ignoring which is clearly putting consumers at risk of injury or death. Hope the ntsb speeds up their investigation before some person or family dies due to this ABS braking failure

I was driving home from work, travelling at a speed of roughly 35mph. I went over a small bump in the road and went to apply brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to get off the road without incident. The dealership said I needed a new master cylinder. I replaced it. A week later driving my children to school I was stopping normally when again the brake pedal went to the floor. Now the dealership states their "best guess" to repair is to replace the ABS actuator. There is no guarantee this will repair the problem. This was escalated to the level of the Nissan engineer because the dealership (jeff schmitt Nissan in beavercreek, Ohio) which is a certified Nissan dealer could not diagnose the problem internally.

Brakes will go all the way to the floor and at times can not stop the car. They bleeded the brake line and changed the fluid, they replaced the master cylinder and after a month is it acting up again. Now they are telling me is is the ABS system. I only have 74000 miles on my car and it should not be happen. This should really be recalled. One day I will get into an accident. I have a few near misses. Thank you
