The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard, with the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with brake failure. The contact was informed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired after the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving 15 MPH and slowing down for a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to slow as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. The contact stated that her granddaughter was not aware if a warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the front calipers, brake pads, brake lines, and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the brake failure persisted. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V916000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.

The contact stated that upon the depression of the brake pedal, additional brake pedal travel time would be required to stop the vehicle as the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard. The contact described the brake as feeling "spongy" upon depression and that no warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact initially contacted an independent mechanic who bled the brake lines; however, the failure persisted. The contact then called the dealer who linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V916000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the contact was given an estimate for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and referred him back to the dealer for assistance. The dealer agreed to repair the vehicle under recall; however, the failure remained. The contact then took the vehicle to another independent mechanic who repaired the brake master cylinder and the brake booster; however, despite these repairs, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was called back and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

2009 Nissan Murano. Consumer writes in regards to brake system issues. The consumer stated on two occasions, the brake pedal went to the floor. The second time, she ran a red light, because she could not stop.

After starting from a cold start (parked overnight) I noticed the brake pedal was soft and went almost to the floor. There was no prior sign of brake failure and the car still could stop, just not as quickly or firmly as normal. Car was taken to a repair shop who diagnosed a leaking master cylinder but there was no brake failure warning light. After the shop replaced the master cylinder and bleed the system they found another leak in the ABS controller/ECU module. An internal leak, and no repair is possible. The shop says they have spoken to Nissan and looked online but find no information about other similar braking system failures, no tsb's, no recalls. I find it very disturbing that two critical brake parts could both be leaking and failing, and the car showed no brake warning lights, no ABS warning lights, no indication of any problem while the brakes had obviously already failed. This is a fairly low mileage single-owner vehicle which has not been in any accidents and has been maintained properly. The failed parts (brake master and ABS controller/ECU are being held available for inspection.

ABS module failure. Needs replacement. In case of emergency, ABS, vdc and stability control are not going to control the vehicle. Also the tires lights warning and the brakes are on.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph in a parking lot, and when the brake pedal was applied the speed rate increased up to 25 mph. The vehicle would not slow down and crashed into an unoccupied parked vehicle. The contact sustained no personal injury. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the residence, and then towed to an authorized dealer where the technician was unable to locate the cause of failure. The vehicle rolls backwards when on an incline large or small. I have to press the gas and the brake as if I'm driving a manual in order to keep from rolling backwards. I had other SUVS and never even had to put my foot on the brake, the vehicle wouldn't move. I've taken it in to the dealer twice and was told this was normal for vehicles with cvt. My husband asked why his maxima didn't do the same thing since it is cvt and they didn't know.
