About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The nighttime visibility when driving my recently acquired Murano in reverse is extremely poor. It makes driving dangerous. Nissan has refused to fix this safety defect, even if I agree to pay a reasonable amount for the necessary repair. The vehicle has very dark tinted windows. It does not have a rear view camera. I believe Nissan should be required to remedy this safety defect.

Vehicle 2009 Nissan Murano mileage 70,000 safety issue: High speed wipers and intermittent front windshield wipers do not work on either manual mode or automatic rain sensing mode. One dealer can not diagnose problem, but wants to reprogram computer @ $500 in hopes of fixing the issue. Another dealer wants to replace windshield for $1,100 as they believe that something in the composition of the windshield is interfering with the rain-sensing sensor monitoring system. This is a well cared for vehicle under a professional fleet maintenance program. This vehicle is available for use by several executives and to have an inoperable high-speed wiper function is a serious safety issue. Nissan's corporate safety response to this basic safety issue is to keep sending the vehicle for more diagnosis by the dealer, who wants to start replacing parts at the owner's expense and to Nissan's profit in hopes of finding a solution. Engineering properly functioning windshield wipers on a vehicle that cost $40,000 new should be a basic safety requirement upon the manufacturer this wiper issue has been a long-term chronic problem with this vehicle to which I only recently became aware. An internet search indicates other Nissan with rain-sensing wipers also have this issue.
