CVT transmission gears slipping. OBD II code states stepper motor malfunction. This has caused the vehicle to go from 75 mph to 45 so quickly it almost caused an accident on the freeway. The most recent incident happened today. The transmission started whining and RPMs went high. This looks to be an issue for more Muranos than necessary and should be considered a recall problem.

Problems with Nissan Murano CVT transmission - Transmission slips with loss of power/acceleration while in traffic, then jerks or lurches forward. No codes (DTC) registered for the symptoms. Dangerous for myself and other drivers as this occurs without warning. Fortunate not to end up in an accident. Nissan manuals do not recommend precautions or service for this. Now faced with all repair costs.

Driving within a few miles headed home from work my car began to loose power as if it wanted to die out on me. It struggled tremendously to gain RPM as if it wasn't getting any gas. I had reached a red traffic light and was afraid it would shut off while awaiting on light to turn green. It would not pick up speed and was shaking badly. Eventually my check engine light appeared but I was already arriving home thankfully. Sadly, upon doing my research of troubleshooting possible issues for Nissan Murano online I came across many issues regarding the transmission. Worse of it all, Nissan has been well informed of this ongoing issue. A class action was filed in 2016 but it appears that was a limited time. My issue has just begun regarding my transmission, so how does this help anyone who is just now dealing with this type of issue? Anyone else with recent similar issue your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The engine was running fine after this but when I placed it in gear, car wouldn-??t go and rolled backwards while in oncoming traffic. Engine light did come on. The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that there was a delay in response while the vehicle was shifting gears. The check engine warning light was illuminated indicating that the engine was overheating. The contact stated that whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would fail to respond. The failure would occur after driving the vehicle for approximately an hour. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission failed. The mechanic replaced the battery. There was no repair performed on the transmission. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Aug 2019 at 61K miles cvt transmission went out. Fought with Nissan to repair of which they replaced. Now, Aug 2020 at 69K, car feels like it goes over 'rumble strips' when coming out of a tight turn (I.e. backing out of driveway or parking spot). Nissan North cannot find or fix issue. No idea what to do but feel safety can be compromised due to vehicle history. Independent mechanic did state I have a transmission fluid leak. He is further investigating issue but no repair has been made

When driving on a long trip, with the cruise-control set, the car suddenly lurched and lost power. The speed reduced and it came out of cruise. I had just started up an incline, so I didn't know if that was the problem. A short time after that the check engine light came on. The transmission started to have issues. It would not go into overdrive and would over rev. We were able to make it to our destination and we took it to a mechanic to have the check engine light checked. The mechanic said it was the transmission and that they could not repair it. We called a transmission shop and they said that they could not repair it either. They had not had any training on how to repair it and that the transmission would have to be replaced. They also said that they had other Nissan Muranos come in with the same issue. This could be a serious safety issue that could if this happened on a highway with heavy traffic. We made it to the second part of the trip but we had to baby the car. The car would not make it home with the car and we had to have it shipped back. I checked and there is not a recall for this issue.

Was driving on vacation from Connecticut to South Carolina on 8/3/18. Just as we arrived there, the car began jerking at random times while driving and eventually just slowed down to a crawl. We managed to get it to a local Nissan dealership and they informed us the transmission failed (we had 62K miles on the car - 2K miles past the warranty). The dealer told us that it likely failed due to the high temperatures the transmission experienced from such a long drive. We paid to have it replaced. Then on 7/26/19, the car experienced the same thing at 76,000 miles. While driving, it began to not accelerate correctly and eventually just started to crawl at a slow pace. We managed to get the car off the side of the road and took it to a Nissan dealership. They told us that the transmission had failed.. the replacement transmission we put in the year prior came with a 1 year/12K mile warranty. While it failed within a year, we were 2K miles over the warranty limit. We are now paying to have it replaced again. Two failures withing a year period costing over 8500. I know Nissan has had cvt transmission issues with other vehicles, I believe there is also a problem with the ones in the Murano...
