My rear passenger window exploded as I was driving down the street one evening. I head a loud "Boom" and then glass falling into my back seat. My initial thought was that someone might have shot or thrown something at the car as I was driving. It was just before 10 pm on a Saturday evening and there were no other cars on the street. I immediately pulled off the road and called police. We could find no explanation for the shattered window and I was baffled, so I googled it and found out that this has happened to many other Nissan owners.
On Monday morning, I called Nissan's North American Headquarters. I filed a report with them and obtained a case number. I was told that someone would be calling me back in reference to my case. That same evening I went to my local Nissan dealership, from which I had purchased the vehicle brand new almost one year ago. I had printed off copies of reports on the internet from other Nissan owners who have experienced exactly the same thing. The service representative entered it into their computer system and long story short, my local Nissan dealership installed a new window, presumably under my 3 year, 36,000 mile factory warranty. They did tell me that they would take care of it "this one time as a goodwill gesture".
Nissan North America finally called me back almost two weeks later to notify me that "they would no longer be investigating my case, due to lack of evidence". What! This made me extremely angry with Nissan. They HAVE to know by now, since they currently have a class action law suit against them for their tempered glass sunroofs doing the exact same thing! I have purchased three Nissans in the last 15 years and I can tell you that I will be trading my 2018 Nissan Murano very soon and I will NEVER buy another one.
