The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the gas tank filler pipe rusted through allowing water to enter the gas tank and fuel to leak. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic who stated that the recall for the fuel system, gasoline storage tank assembly, filler pipe and cap (07V435000) was related to the failure. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the recall and due to the VIN the vehicle was not associated with the recall. The contact was concerned about the safety risk involving the fuel tank and request that the manufacturer issue an additional recall that includes more vehicle identification numbers. The failure mileage was 114,664.

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle was parked in the garage with a full tank of gas. The contact smelled a strong gas odor in the house and inspected the vehicle. He then noticed gas on the garage floor. He removed the vehicle from the garage and discovered that the gas filler tube had rusted through, allowing fuel to leak from the vehicle. The contact purchased the part and replaced the component. Since that time, he has been made aware of NHTSA campaign id number 07V435000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap), however, Nissan stated that his VIN was not included. The current mileage was 82,493 and failure mileage was 75,000. Updated 01/02/08. Updated 12/12/07

The gas line filler pipe on my 2000 Nissan Pathfinder was defective and caused the gas to over flow when the tank was filled. There was 2 month back order on the part. This would suggest that problem was common.
