Second time around for the same problem. The first engine at 75,00 miles was diagnosed with 2 damaged cylinders and a knocking in the crank case. Ordered a used engine with 34,00 miles had it installed for a total cost of $4,400.00 and 1 month without a vehicle. Fortunately I kept the engine.
The second time it happened, mechanic thought it was in the timing chain assembly. He found nothing wrong, decided to strip #1 engine down to nothing. I found the power valve screws loose and 1 valve totally dislocated, with no other damage to the engine other than scored cylinders. No damage in the crank!
In the presence of the mechanic I pulled off the intake to find the exact same problem with engine #2.
Without doing anything to engine #1, I took all the critical components to Jim Smolich Motors, where I purchased the vehicle new, and showed the engine to the service manager, the owners son and one of the techs. The service manager said he would see what he could do...HA!
After 1 month of waiting and negotiating the best they would do was $1,007.40 from nissan, what about the other $7,000 plus that I was going to have to spend.
Month #2 was spent compiling piles of info for Nissan just to receive a generic denial letter. After multiple attempts the refused to put in writing why I was denied but after making them mad enough the did give me reasons verbally. Saying that the vehicle was out of warranty, I took the engine apart and that I purchased the second engine used...
Month #3 was spent in contact with State of Oregon Attorney General. That was a waste of time! I did get another denial letter, but they were powerless to do anything.
Now I have filed with Small Claims Court.
Anyone out there with any good info it would be greatly appreciated. I've never experienced such poor customer service, stonewalling, and big corporation bullying.
