I am always putting in gas, because I never know when I might run out. I can have a full tank and gas gage to empty and the orange light come on. Other people who have the same model car have the same problem. It should have been a recall.

This is another issue with Nissan. Why didn't they just recall the item and replace it instead of extending the warranty. My SUV was over the warranty time when the problem occurred.

After Nissan caused tranny failure with no recall, the fuel gauge stops working when the gas gets below half tank. My 06 NISMO did this also and I took it to the dealer and there was a recall due to the faulty tank liner....fixed it no prob! So when I called Nissan about my daughters fuel gauge on her 05 Pathfinder doing the same thing I assumed there would be a recall on it also. NOPE.....I'm not sure why.....its essentially the same dang truck. I'm so angry right now....it wasn't bad enough that their faulty radiator ruined a $6000 tranny I had to replace myself because the refuse to take responsibility for any ones trannys.....now they wont take care of their crappy gas tank problems either....Wow....what happened to the company that stood behind their product....LAST Nissan Ill ever own ...Hey Nissan Toyota says THANKS!!!!!!

Nissan clearly is a company that is set out to steal from honest consumers that put their trust on them when they went out a bought a car from one of their dealers. My 05 Pathfinder was due for smog, it's 2015 I drove this SUV for a while and put 124k miles. Well surprise to me it didn't pass smog due a Fuel sensor malfunction.

I took it to AAMCO for free diagnostic and they told me the same thing. Check engine light never came on ever and now up until now this error happens. AAMCO tells me Nissan issued an alert to owners to take it to them they may help fix the issue. Dealer right away says yes there was a message sent out to owners about this issue we knew we had dealing with Fuel sensors going bad. Nissan service says we have to charge for diagnostic and then we can tell you how much its going to cost you to fix it roughly around $600. I never received any info about this not a call, letter or email from Nissan.

Service tech says truck is way out of warranty nothing they can do to help. I call Nissan regional office they states, yes we had info sent out to owners but your case due to mileage its way out of warranty. I tell him how is it that something you guys were aware of even now that this issue has surfaced in my SUV you can't help fix it. It was going to be done in the first place. He says yes but your mileage took you out of warranty. I asked him to tell me when I was notified of this issue and the regional consumer guy said well we don't know we hire a 3rd party to do that.

So Nissan can't even prove they reached out to owners they knew these SUV's were a LEMON in the first place but failed to fix it knowing issues would come up years from the time of sale. WRONG and we must do something, WE SHOULD SUE NISSAN! these SUV's had this issue but also their transmission had big issues as well, they use mileage as a way to beat around their issue they created in the first place. What are we to do not drive our cars we buy from them. NISSAN IS A MONEY STEALING NO GOOD FOR NOTHING COMPANY! DO NOT BUY FROM NISSAN EVER,YEARS FROM YOUR PURCHASE YOU WILL REGRET IT LIKE MANY OF US. #NISSANSELLSLEMONVEHICLES

Purchasd the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder in Nov 2011, dealer said they would fix the fuel level sensor problem. Called repeatedly and dealer would not fix. Took it to the local Nissan dealership and they said the fuel filter and sensor had to be replaced for about a thousand dollars. Now I was really pissed with the car because I just spent over $4600 getting the damn transmission fixed. Its time to sell.

Have not been able to tell how much fuel in vehicle for the past 2.5 years, been using the dte to keep up with it,. Check engine light is on and repair was quoted to be $4-500 because the whole fuel system had to be replace. Could not afford to fix. This has not been my only problem with the pathfinder. Couldn't afford to fix fuel problem due to radiator, transmission problems that put me on the side of the road and out of pocket $4500. Really love the suv but not liking the repairs that appear to be a manufacturing fault. Was hoping Nissan would come forward and do a recall. I WILL NOT purchase another Nissan.

The fuel sensor does not read accurately. This seems to be a huge problem with the 2005 Nissan Pathfinders. There is a recall for the 2006 models but there is no recall for the 2005 models. This is shameful and there should be a recall considering it is the same problem.

I purchased my 2005 nissan pathfinder on 6/30/2012. BIG BIG MISTAKE!!!!! I took my vehichle to the Nissan dealer because my check engine light was on, my gas reading was inccorrect and when I started my car it didn't warm up at all until you drive the vehile for several miles and the vehicle was just running like crap (to put in nice words). I received a call several hours later and was told that fluid had leaked into the transmission and that I would have to replace the transmission, radiator, and there were a few other things such as I had to purchase a thermostat and they did a replacement on the ECM relay due to a recall. I purchased an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle so basically what I was told is that Nissan would cover the transmission, radiator, and ecm relay and my extended warranty would cover some other stuff however i had to pay my 100.00 deductible plus the thermostat. Ok ok I did. I drove the car away from the service station and guess what my check engine light came back on and my gas gauge was still reading inaccurate. Well took the vehicle back in and by the way was treated like crap (put in nice words). I was told now that it is the ECU for vent conrol valve and had to pay another 100.00n deductible because of course that was covered under my extended warranty that I purchased. Well drove the vehicle after that was fixed off the lot at 1:00 which is the time they close and about 1/2 mile down the road the engine light came on. Well took it back and now was told that my evap canistar internally failed and the purge volume conrol valve and evap conrol system pressure needs replaced. It would only cost me over 500.00 to fix. I am so irate typing this right now that some is coming out of my ears. I just purchased this vechicle and it only has 50,000 miles on it. Very disappointed in my purchase and will never ever by a nissan again

Pathfinder LX V6

This was really the first big sign that this truck (which should last 200k) had something seriously wrong with it. The gas gauge stared reading incorrectly and then the truck just shut down in the middle of a busy intersection, which was fun for all involved (two kids in car). Luckily, it restarted and I was able to get it off the road- but it's an incredibly dangerous defect that I wasn't told about by my dealer, Ted Russell Nissan, at the time of purchase (2009). Moral of the story, again, avoid these vehicles like the plague.

2005 Pathfinder was fine when the warranty extension came out. I was just past the extension in miles and now I have the radiator issue AND the fuel sending unit issue. The dealership says I caught the radiator issue early but I am still looking at $900 to fix both and the strong possibility the transmission may go bad in the future. I am starting a letter writing campaign as this should be a recall as they specifically recognize the faulty parts. I received some advice from Clark Howard to file complaints on Facebook, twitter, autosafety.org NHTSA.gov and request a meeting with the Nissan Zone Rep. Lets see what happens.

Was on the highway and we stopped to fuel up the truck. I topped it off and the fuel gauge only said 1/2 tank and the digital DTE gauge was 0. I got worried and after researching online I found out that the Fuel Level Sensor needed replaced. I also learned its in the tank ATTACHED TO THE FUEL PUMP. Nice job NISSAN. I went ahead and ordered the whole assembly and, you guessed it, NOT FROM THE DEALERSHIP! They wanted $700 just for the pump and sensor. I was going to do the job myself but decided that due to the FULL tank and my limited place to do it WITHOUT a rack I would have to have it done. I spent the money and had it fixed. No issues with it since.

Service Engine Soon light appeared approximately 1 year ago (2011) and the gas gauge no longer accurately showed the amount of fuel in the tank. I went to the Modern Nissan Dealer in Concord, NC to have it investigated on 10/27/2011 and was told the Service Engine code of P0463 meant the Fuel Sensor needed to be replaced and that would cost approximately $450 to replace, given the fuel tank needed to be removed.

The service man at the dealership said he wouldn't spend the money to replace it, but didn't elaborate further.

When I went to get my car expected in May, 2012, I was told the fuel sensor issue had to be addressed for the car to pass. On 5/17/12, I had the fuel sensor replaced and the computer reset. The gas gauge was accurate again and the fuel sensor went off...UNTIL the $4,000 repair (on top of the $1200 repair from Jan '12) for the coolant and transmission fluid mixing. Nissan has a problem with this model and they need to resolve to their consumer's satisfaction.

While I am just now becoming aware of all the problems that plague the Pathfinder, I have a 2005 LE that just had the fuel sender break on it. I went to fill my tank last night, and after filling, the gauge still said the tank was empty, but the service engine soon light was on too. After searching the internet about this issue, I have found hundreds of complaints for this issue. I also have read hundreds of complaints from people who have lost their trannys because of the coolant mix issue. I am bypassing mine immediately, and I am installing another cooler as well. There is obviously a design flaw with the Pathfinder for all of these issues arising, and for them to do nothing about it is CRIMINAL. I think I will sell mine ASAP, and I will never again buy a Nissan product.

Pathfinder SE 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,700 miles

I have notice when the tank was filled up, the gas gauge gradually start to go F(Full) and then the Service Light went on. I drove it for 2-3 days, then the service light went off. Then, I notice the gas gauge wasn't ready correctly. I kept a track of milage I use during the week. Once again, I refill my tank, then the gauge didn't move, the service light went on again. Then, I took to the dealer and told me it's an issue in which the fuel sender unit need to be replace. It's a good thing I had the extend warranty for 100K in which it was expiring by end of this month. It would cost me $100.00.. without that warranty it would have cost $455.66. Yes, I know it's alot of money to dish out.

I recommend for those who have this type of vechile, make sure the gas gauge works correctly or you might a victim stuck on the road without gas. Any future car buyers of Nissan Pathfinder, think to invest the extended warranty or decide to get a differnt SUV without these issues. It's a pain to go to the dealer have it fix.
