problem #1

Pathfinder XE 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 149,450 miles

While traveling up US 95 in VA, DC, MD and NJ, when confronted with stop and go traffic, when I tried to start from a complete stop, the car could not get into first gear and revved and shook and wouldn't go. Many of the times I came perilously close being hit from behind. It also happens when I start up from a red light or have to take a left turn from a stop. Consequently I can only take a left turn when there is no one visible coming from the opposite direction. When the left turn is controlled by a green arrow, it often won't go. This has also caused near accidents from behind and lots of road rage.

The repair cost is prohibitive-about $4500 for transmission and $2000 for coolant/radiator, and another thousand for oil gasket leaks. I can't believe they are saying this doesn't pose a safety problem. It also occasionally when I am accelerating onto and while passing on a major interstate. This is my third Pathfinder (2000, 2002, 2005, plus a 1969 Datsun station wagon) and I would never buy one again, and warn other people to not buy them. Very disappointed and appalled that Nissan won't acknowledge this problem and fix it at no cost to customer. And also disgusted that NTSA won't investigate it on the dishonest excuse that it doesn't pose a safety problem. What do they think happens when you're accelerating on a highway and you can't get into the next gear? Roadkill!!!
