Starting in May 2011, I notice the transmission was shift real hard; when I would take it out of park and place it in drive, it felt like the motor was going to jump out of the vehicle. Now I can only travel 40 to 60 mph. The transmission slips when I drive it. I

I notice May 18, 2011 that the coolant has been low; I am losing coolant somewhere. I would look underneath the vehicle , and no sign of any leaks. I have checked my transmission fluid and found that my fluid did not look like transmission fluid; I am not sure why this has occurred.

Nissan is fully aware of this problem, yet they refuse to recall the faulty radiator. My transmission is shot because of the radiator leaking in to it. The repair man at my Nissan dealer said we are looking at $5,500 in repairs! Who has that lying around? Nissan should recall the radiators in the year model vehicles that have this problem and make repairs to customers vehicles at no cost to the customer.
Update from Apr 18, 2011: I have been communicating with Mr. Duncan at Nissan Corporate for about a week. After much run around and not returning my calls I was told that my warranty was up and sorry, nothing Nissan can or will do.

Now working on transmission number 2, same issue, radiator leaking into trany. After first one went out we had 1k miles left on warranty, second went out and at first they said it was the rear end, so they replaced that then said ooops, it was the tranny and are going to replace on the Nissan "good will program", I advised I would take the 7K they wanted for repairs and spend it on a good lawyer and sue their ass first. I have bought 4 cars from this dealership in the past 10 years. Once this is repaired I'm going to trade it in on a new Honda and forget Nissan.

We have owned Nissan's for 20 years and have always been happy. Until now. My 2007 Pathfinder recently started feeling like I was driving over a rumble strip when I reached 40 to 60 mph. I have 68000 miles on it so of course my warranty has expired. When I take it out of overdrive it seems fine. I've had it checked and no one has been able to tell me what the problem was until I found this site and read a lot of other peoples reviews. It sounds exactly like some of the others with the radiator leaking into the transmission. I recently received a warranty extension from Nissan for the problem with the radiator. I will be taking my Pathfinder to the dealership.

I have owned nothing but Nissans for the past 20 years. My family has bought 14 Nissans during that time. We have always got great service out of them. I currently have a 2007 Pathfinder with 69,000miles on it and I have had nothing but trouble out of it. This is the longest I have keep a vehicle, I usually trade every two years. But when you pay over $38,000 for a vehicle it should last for many years. It started out with the CD changer getting jammed and having to have a new one installed. The windshield wiper motor had to be replaced. Now the heater has stopped working while the car is idling and the transmission is slipping when you reach 40 to 60mph. I have an appointment next week to take my vehicle to the dealership, so we'll see how that goes. I've been reading all the other reviews and have learned of the transmission and radiator issue. I can't believe Nissan hasn't stepped up and take care of this problem. Being a loyal Nissan customer my end next week when I find out what they intend to do about my current issue with my Pathfinder.
Update from Feb 6, 2011: I took my Pathfinder to the dealership and explained the issues that I was having. After checking everything they told me that my radiator was cracked which had destroyed my transmission and heater core. They said that since I had 69000 miles everything was covered under the extended warrenty and would be replaced at no charge. They also gave me a loaner to use until the work was complete. I know that I am one of the lucky ones, but there are so many that are over the extended warrenty miles and are stuck paying for the repairs that is all Nissans fault. Nissan should have had a recall on this issue and done the right thing like Toyota did. Even though they did take care of this problem for me I can't help but think what if it had happened 21000 miles later, I would be in the same situation as so many others. Therefore my husband and I have decided that this is our last Nissan. It is obvious that Nissan is no longer the same company that we have been so dedicated to over the past 20 years.

Having the same issues as others have described. It feels like you are driving over rumble strips when the car is switching gears.
- pevreel, Carmel, NY, US
The problem was noticed when the truck shifted from 4th to overdrive on highway - felt as if you were riding the rumble strips on the side of the road for 2-3 seconds each time it shifted to overdrive. If Nissan had put out a recall on a defective radiator the repair bill would have oly been 10% of what the damage it caused! I will never go back unless they right the wrong!

Nissan is absolutely ignoring this problem because this happens mainly to vehicles that are out of warranty. This seems to be affecting 2005-2008. Curiously waiting to see if they fixed the defect in the 2009-2010 models. Nissan's reply to me "Based on the information we have obtained, at this time, we are unable to offer assistance with this vehicle, as the vehicle is well out of warranty. Once the vehicle is out of warranty, Nissan North America (NNA) is longer obligated to assist with repairs." If you do the research some Pathfinder owners, still under warranty, have even had trouble getting Nissan to replace the transmission because NNA is saying that the radiator failed not the transmission. If you have not reported your problem to Nissan, do it now! If you have not reported your problem on this site, do it now!

I took my car to Nissan for Maintenance, all fluids were check and the transmission fluid was replaced as recommended by Nissan. About three weeks later I notice a vibration on the transmission around 40 -50 mph I check the tires and front wheel components for damage. None were found. After checking for a while I discovered that this is a common problem with Nissan (Several Car Models) and Nissan like Toyota is denying any responsibility concerning the failure of the radiator which results in anti cooling liquid from traveling to the transmission. They have a band aid for this problem in which they agree to replace the radiator ($400) but not the transmission ($5000) and the problem is will all cars having more than 65000 miles. like any other company in our country, they allow to do anything they want because they know that the cost of an attorney will be more that the cost of repairing the transmission therefore they can play the game of cat and mouse. Sadly, our government will not step up to the plate and force these companies to be responsible for their car defects. My problem is worse because I did not have any problems until I took the car to Nissan for Maintenance. Now my car is having the type of problems as thousands of people and I need to save this money to pay for the repair. It is time for all USA Citizens’ to stop other countries to come over here and do wherever they want. Let’s stop NOW.. I am going to put this car in my garage until I have enough money to repair it and then I am going to trade in for an AMERICA made car. In the mean time I am going to put a sign on the back of my Chrysler Town and country mini van with 240000 miles indicating this problem and to tell the USA consumer to stop buying Nissan. Please check your consumer report before you buy a Nissan. I hope that everybody follows these steps in order to bring our own products and jobs back to the USA.
