I WAS DRIVING OVER THE PORT MANN BRIDGE, WHEN MY VEHICLE STARTED STUDDERING. I LOST POWER BUT WITH SOME QUICK THINKING I WASABLE TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND SURF MOST OF THE WAY AND THEN SWITCH BACK INTO GEAR. WORKED FOR A BIT BUT ENDED UP STRANDED. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE DROVE IT OFF THE FLAT BED. SHORTLY AFTER, ADVISED ME MY TRANSMISSION NO LONGER WORKS. HE MENTIONED THAT THE RADIATOR COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND HE WAS CERTAIN THE PREVIOUS OWNERS KNEW ABOUT IT. THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED BUT THE DAMAGE WAS ALREADY DONE. Basically, the previous owners withheld that info and lied. Now having read the articles this has been an ongoing issue that Nissan has failed to recall. However, there is a pending class action lawsuit and hopefully the recall will go through. Many owners are disappointed with Nissan and I am also upset with the seller not being honest, THEY BOTH PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER. I only had this vehicle for apprx 1 month : (

I write to you as a 2-time Nissan owner. My first car was a Nissan Altima GXE and I absolutely loved it. I drove it for 7 years before I traded it in for my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder S which has been my saving grace as the single mother of 2. The space was much-needed and the 3rd row kept arguments to a minimum on road trips.
So please ask me why I write to you now with so much anger and disappointment. What I once thought was THE best value in the auto industry has me now anxious every single time I get in my vehicle. Driving to dance class on Tuesdays is stressful. Driving to my daughter's school to pick her up after her after-school activities on Wednesdays makes my heart race. Why? Because the vehicle I have relied on for so many years is no longer reliable. And what’s even more frustrating about that…it’s not my fault! It is not because of normal wear and tear. I need a new transmission because Nissan created a less than stellar product.
With over 100,000 miles on my vehicle, I no longer qualify for Nissan’s assistance to repair what they poorly created. Why am I, the single mother of two, now responsible for a $5,000 bill to fix what a global powerhouse in the auto industry poorly made? Please help me understand this.
I just knew my next vehicle would be a Nissan Maxima but now I am utterly disappointed and also very much afraid that a vehicle I cannot afford to fix will leave me and my children stranded on the side of the road. It is a terrible feeling that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I own a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder bought brand new, never had any problems, always kept and maintained. About 3 weeks ago never heard there was a coolant problem nor was I send anything from Nissan regarding this matter. If they would of informed their customers by mail even if you are over the miles they would have been better than loosing future customers.
This all happened on Feb 9 on a Sunday in Seattle. I live in northern California up in Seattle for cancer treatment. My wife said the car wouldn't go so she pulled over. After turning it off for a little bit she was able to get to a parking lot and call AAA. Had the car towed, then my wife tried to get a rental car, after couples of calls and help with AAA she found one that would come to us. We don't know our way around only to the hospital. My wife was very upset this happened, worried about getting to treatments and everything which put stress on me. Bottom line, the car costs $8323.00 to fix. They said it was the radiator leaking into the transmission, had to get a new radiator and a rebuilt transmission.
If Nissan would just notified their customers this would never have happened because most people would of had it check and replaced the radiator for less than $500.00.This would of helped before my saving and the cost of staying in Seattle for 6 weeks was gone. Nissan should own up to their mistake and help customers with repair costs regardless. Thanks

2007 pathfinder transmission problems started and took it in and was told that coolant leaked into the transmission due to design flaw by nissan. So now it might cost up to 4000 dollars to fix. I think that is a bunch of crap. It is from nothing I did. Bad design by nissan but now everyone has to suffer. So now just waiting for my estimate to see if i can fix it.. SMDH

Nissan is by far the most outlandish and despicable car dealership/manufacture I have ever come across. For about a week my transmission was going. The car would tremor viciously and shudder while driving especially driving at high speeds on the highway. Took it into a Nissan dealership yesterday to get it checked out and they diagnosed it saying a broken trans cooler line in radiator which the coolant than mixed with the transmission fluid. Replace radiator and transmission and flush engine block. Total cost: $5938.00 plus CA tax which out the door is going to cost me around $6500 bucks!
Researched this issue online and found I am not the only one having this DEFECT problem that is Nissan's FAULT! Found a Class Action Lawsuit was filled against Nissan for this exact problem. Nissan is offering a JOKE of a "Warranty" with a high deductible ONLY for Cars that are under 100,000 miles. Guess what my millage on my Pathfinder is? Yep over 100,000. 111,349 miles to be exact. Called the Class Action lawsuit and said we can't help you because your over the hundred thousand mile mark. Called Nissan Consumer Affairs and they said no we can't help you because your over the hundred thousand mile mark. Excuse me?
But Nissan this is YOUR problem, YOUR DEFECT, not mine. In the 2 short years I have owned my Nissan Pathfinder, I have had it serviced, taken care of, and just 2 short months ago I had it completely checked out by a licensed mechanic, which passed with flying colors. This is NOT a wear and tear issue, this is NOT a maintenance issue. This is your fault Nissan and I am not going to lay down while you decide to hand me your line of bull and expect me to pay out of pocket for your defect!

Dreaded intermix!!!! Fix this Nissan. I'm at the dealer now, I'm selling mine. Wont ever buy Nissan again. I could complain, but its all been said- and i agree with every lament: poor build quality, poor customer service, shoulda bought a toyota. Further comments will undoubtedly be "deemed inappropriate" by this site

Nissan is under investigation for faulty manufacturing of 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinders and potentially will recall affected vehicles, making the decision last as long as possible, but meanwhile people who are faced with this debilitating problem are asked to cough up 3,000 of their own money to fix a problem that has nothing to do with wear and tear and soley a result of neglect on Nissan's part? This is an outrage and the poorest example of customer service I have ever seen. The extended warranty with high deductibles that Nissan has offered is useless, a bandaid and an insult to any owner who has spent a considerable amount of money purchasing this vehicle. I am currently filing every comlaint I can and reaching out to as many news media outlets that I can to get Nissan exposed for their categorical criminal response to their consumers.

I just purchased a 2007 Pathfinder in Sept, and now I am having serious issues and I am very upset seeing all these problems with no recalls. I pray everything works out in the end, I just started having the issues and plan on taking the vehicle to the dealer this week to have it looked at so I can get the same news as you all. My transmission started slipping at first, now, my car continues to run hot.

radiator went bad allowing coolant to get into transmission. the shop I took it to replaced the radiator flushed the transmission and said it was fine. 4 months later transmission is shot and the mileage now is 2000 miles above what nissans warranty will cover they want me to pay 2500.00 $ and they will pay the rest even though the problem actually occurred when mileage was under the warranty. if I would have known Nissan was having problems with their radiators I would have taken it to a authorized Nissan shop to have it fixed right the first time. I did nothing to create the problem with the radiator it is a manufacturers defect and think Nissan should stand behind there product and fix it.
- Greg S., Marquette, MI, US
I know that this is a common problem. I have a 07 Pathfinder that was running fine and all of the sudden it started acting like it was having difficulty shifting. I was in route to take it to the shop and it totally went out, would not work in any gear. Towed it to the shop and they told me the dreaded news.
From reading other post I noticed that I could have avoided this by routing the transmission line out off the radiator, a very simple fix and this would have solved the problem. So if you have any Nissan from 05 up with this drive train be sure to have this done, it will save you a minimum of $3,000.00.

JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR BACK IN NOVEMBER 2012! AND ALREADY IT NEEDS. A RADIATOR OR TRANSMISSION.. I SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY BUYING AND REPAIRING THIS CAR. NISSAN SHOULD HELP FIX THE PROBLEM I HAVE KIDS, MORTAGE, AND TO PAY FOR A TRANSMISSION ITS GONNA BE HARD I AM NOT SURE HOW TO PULL THIS OFF.. ITS HOLIDAY TIME.. I ALREADY SPENT $1,000 ON A RADIATOR. THis is sad...

This is the widespread problem of the radiator failing and leaking into the transmission, thereby ruining the transmission. Logically, there are three conclusions as to the cause (and thereby effect):
1. It's normal wear and tear to have to spend $4,000 on a new radiator and transmission at 100,000 miles.
2. It's my fault. I just drove it too darn hard.
3. It's a product defect.
#1 and #2 are so patently ridiculous as to be undeserving of further comment. So that leaves #3.
It's a product defect that Nissan should fix. Free of charge. In fact, I should get a few extra bucks for the pain and aggravation.

So I purchased a 2007 nissan pathfinder in July of 2012 and it had around 91,000 miles on it. Just over a year later in August of 2013 my transmission went out and it was due to the radiator leaking into the transmission. I had a warranty but they dealer said the warranty company would not fix it as I was 346 miles over the warranty. Really!!!!! So they said it would cost me $5100 to fix the car. That basically brings me up above what the car is costing me already. Why doesn't Nissan step up and fix what is an issue so many other Nissan owners are having. people have families, jobs and other responsibilities and purchase Nissan's cars with the idea that they are getting a reliable vehicle and not something making it difficult to get to work. All in all this is not something I want to pay but hey what else can I do. I'm not buying another Nissan that's for sure. One customer lost but in the grand scheme of things will that really make a difference. Please Nissan take responsibility for this issue. I can understand if I wasn't changing my oil or put diesel in my gas tank yeah that's my fault. But this many people having the same issue is not a coincidence. DO SOMETHING PLEASE!!!!
Not just an online complainer. I would say this in person!!!
- Robin W., San Francisco, CA, US
I feel very disgusted because Nissan should cover the entire cost to fix this problem since it is a known defect of the vehicle. I like many others can't afford such a huge expense and have to find other means of transportation for my daily activities. This problem has caused a huge problem in my life at this time.

Dealer has vehicle now. (9/20/13). Claims the valve body the controls the transmission is bad. They did not think the photo of the radiator cap and radiator neck filled with white goo was that bad!?
They are flushing the transmission, replacing the valve body and think this is the correct fix. I would like to know from Nissan what the correct recommended fix is for the radiator defect coolant cross contaminate problem these vehicles are prone to. I understand they extended the warranty, but if the dealers are not performing the correct fix what good is it? I understand from some sources that once the clutch plates are exposed to gylcol/water coolant that they are damaged and a flush will not fix the problem. So is my dealer just putting on a bandaid for this well known problem?

A 8 year old vehicle with regular maintenance and well taken care of should NOT all the sudden have the radiator leaking!! This is an obvious manufacture defect issue and not a warranty issue!
- ajaworski, Jackson, MI, US
Just want to know what the problem is and get it fixed. I'm a single mother of 4 kids and don't have a lot of money.
- Kathy W., Yamassee, SC, US
Frustrated, disappointed that they give you No solution or even try to help u to fix the problem. They just tell you paid $5500 is to fix it and with there discount u as a customer have to pay $3500 to fix it. When they should pay for the whole amount due to their known fault, they're the reason why the truck needs to be fixed in the first place. I will never buy a Nissan car or truck again, the worst experience and customer services ever.

We recently had our 2007 Nissan Pathfinder breakdown due to a known issue that allows coolant into the transmission resulting in transmission failure. There was no indication of this issue until its sudden failure which my left my wife in a parking lot calling for a tow truck. The check engine light was illuminated and I was able to pull the code from the OBD II with a scan tool which revealed Code "P0717 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal?" and so I checked the internet for possible causes. To my surprise I found a lot of information regarding this particular issue as many people have experienced the same issue. I am now aware there was a class action lawsuit that Nissan settled by extending the warranty as follows:
Up to 8 years/80,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with no customer co-pay.
After 8 years/80,000 miles, whichever comes first, up to 9 years/90,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with customer co-pay in the amount of $2,500.
After 9 years/90,000 miles, whichever comes first, up to 10 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first, extended warranty coverage applies with customer co-pay in the amount of $3,000.
I called our local Nissan dealership and was provided a number to contact Nissan Consumer Relations as he well aware of this issue and the repair would run over $6000 dollars. I called Nissan Consumer Relation and spoke with a representative, then a supervisor, and eventually Eduardo with Nissan Consumer Relations Executive Offices all of which stated that Nissan will not assist with the repair as my Pathfinder has 105,624 miles. There is currently an open investigation with (ODI) Office of Defect Investigations and NHTSA with multiple complaints regarding the same issue. It reads: "ODI received a petition requesting investigation of transmission damage attributed to contamination by engine coolant. The source of the contamination is a cracked ATF line that runs through an engine coolant chamber in the radiator." Most of the issues that I found were reported after 100,000 miles conveniently out of Nissan's extended warranty. I am currently searching for a repair shop to perform the repair since Nissan neglects to issue a recall on this part and wants to nothing to due with the high repair bill for a defective part they put in their vehicles.
