hatch strut mount rusted out

I'm had a handful of issues (cooling system failure, gas tank sensor and temp sensor issues, etc) with the Nissan Pathfinder since purchasing it from a dealership in 2017, but the power tailgate strut rusting out and breaking off is the icing on the cake and a serious safety issue since the door is extremely heavy. What if the tailgate strut had broken off while one of my kids was grabbing groceries out of the trunk for me? The tailgate would have crushed them.

Anyway, this is only a 5-year-old Pathfinder and shouldn't have parts rusting out like this. Now, I've been quoted that I'll have to spend at least $600 just for parts to replace both struts and reset the liftgate system. Unbelievable.

Update from Sep 9, 2019: To repair this issue will cost over $1500 for parts alone because they have to remove all the current equipment and put in all new equipment and reset the computer. Absolutely ridiculous. There is no reason this part should have rusted out, especially after only 5 years. This issue should warrant a recall.

Unloading groceries and hit rear tailgate button and door stopped and heard a snap. The rear hatch strut support snapped after finding corrosion. Read other similar experiences. Took to dealer and given estimate of $1600 to repair or $500 for non-power struts and brackets.

Did some research and found : 2014-2016 Nissan Rogue recalled for liftgate corrosion. Same issue. Same year. Same manufacturer. No recall on Pathfinder models?
