For a vehicle that I purchased new and is just over 3 years old there should not be an issue with the power lift gate. The repair estimate was $1,500.
To make matters worse there is no manual way to open the lift gate from outside the vehicle....nice design work engineers! I have resorted to tying a rope to the manual release on the inside of the vehicle so that I can open the lift gate on my 2014 Pathfinder.

Happened when battery/electrical system failed and I looked in back for jumper cables. Would not latch all the way upon closing. Dash lit up with a warning light and beeping to let me know on the 30 minute driving home after someone came and jump started the car for me, and then again when we brought it to the dealer. Replacing the car battery did not fix it, they are now investigating it further.
