Pathfinder Platinum 3.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 31,069 miles

2015 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum, full load. Purchased with 50,000 Km's.

Vehicle drives like new, but I have very poor heat and very poor air conditioning.

Heat in winter rises to 65 degrees Celsius under acceleration, but drops to 35 degrees while at idle. The vehicle will not climb to any higher than that, even after 2 hours of continuous operation, or by changing any settings on the dashboard.

Air conditioning is similar.. cool air is present at idle, but certainly not "cold" air, and the setting must be on "recirc" to get any useful cold air flow. I have not pursued the AC problem yet, so no more on that.

Two separate dealerships have told me that this is the way they (Pathfinder's) are designed, and they are all like that.

Nissan customer service responded to my online complaint and referred me back to the dealer.. the dealer again provided no answers, and referred me back to customer service.

I paid for a full coolant system flush (from a coolant specialist) because the dealer wouldn't do any exploratory work on the heat system. I was amazed at the amount of heat I got the moment I got my vehicle back!! wow.. so much heat, had to turn it down.. but alas, it didn't last. The very next time I started the vehicle (like an hour later), I had the same poor heat again. So a system flush is not the fix, but there is hope.. there was a lot of heat for a while, so that means the system is capable of generating high heat. Just need to figure out what the issue is..

Winter is three months away and I am dreading it already... it takes an hour to get the vehicle warm enough to be comfortable.. I work thirty to forty minutes away!

looking for help if anyone has any.

cheers

Pathfinder LT 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 28,583 miles

Took this in and Nissan dealer said it was operating normal. Had technician show me what they did:

They checked coolant level and strength (there is a problem with heating if coolant low)

They checked computer to ensure engine thermostat working.

You can check this by watching your temp gauge comes up to normal temp.

They checked output temp with laser thermo meter. 41C

Still is uncomfortably cold in cabin when temps colder than -10C. Seems to be a problem with heat circulation rather than output. I don't think Nissan engineered these cars to heat up such a voluminous cabin. They are recommending coolant/core flush. I'm installing a winter front first (my idea not theirs) and looking for where heat escapes at rear and will restrict.

Pathfinder Platinum 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission

THE PROBLEM WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL OUTSIDE TEMP REACHED -35 DEGREES CELSIUS (31 F.).

AT 950 RPM OR LOWER WHEN STOPPED IN TRAFFIC OR IDLING IN PARK THE HEATER BLOWS COLD AIR IT GETS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE QUICKLY. AT 1100 PLUS RPM ALL IS WELL, LOTS OF HEAT. ENGINE TEMPERATURE IS NORMAL AND DOES NOT CHANGE AT ANY RPM. ODOMETER HAS 70,000 km or 27029 miles.

Pathfinder Platinum 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 43,496 miles

heater blows cool air at idle and warm air at higher rpm

Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder have poor heat at idle or low rpm in cold weather( -20 Celsius). These vehicles seem to not be made for warm comfort in extreme cold climates.

Started car. Defog in front blowing how air, hot air coming from 2nd row vents. On/Off button on panel not working. Entire heating display not coming on, so I cannot shut off this heat coming out. No "troubleshooting" page in manual, and of course on Sunday no Nissan service is open.

I been having this issue with my heat/air/compressor. Between two dealership I have made a total of 6 trips between the 2 dealerships. I keep getting a run around that this truck is designed for the compressor to run all year around, which I find that hard to believe. No way any car should be made for that to happen, otherwise it would affect gas mileage and performance and power.

I took it in May 2015 two months after I bought it because I felt something was wrong with the way air and heat operated. I took it to Lander Nissan for them to look at it because they was closer to my house, he agreed of something didn’t sound right under the hood when I turned on my air or heat but that it would take a few days to get me into the shop. The same day I took it on out to Wolfchase Nissan where I bought the truck, they had a guy to come out to listen he also was concerned on the sound the compressor was making when I cut on the heat, the compressor was clicking in and for me to bring it back in. I took in back up there like he said, the guy comes out there asking me what is it doing. I told him.

He sat in the truck with me and we turn the switch from heat to air. Once he heard the sound of the air compressor coming on he told me that it is supposed to operate that way because new cars is set up that way. Late Sept I took it back to Lander Nissan for a oil change alone with having them to check this problem out again, they told me again that this is design this way.

Fri Oct 2nd I couldn't take it anymore, I left work and took it back out to Nissan bc I know something was wrong now. Now that the weather has changed and I needed to run heat. The heat wasn’t hot and again when I would turn the heat on you can hear the compressor engaging. He called and told me that its fixed and the problem was that it was a lose heater hose clamp in the cooling system not allowing the heat to get hot which in return caused compressor to come on.

I was pleased at the point thinking that the problem had been taken care of and know that I wasn’t crazy thinking that this was something going on in my head alone.. the minute I left the dealership I notice the heat wasn’t getting hot still so I waited for the next day to call him back…… he told me why don’t I ride it out until it gets a little cooling in weather. I feel this way, if I want heat I should get heat likewise with the air and shouldn’t have to wait until it get cooler outside..

I am still please Nissan cars, but I just don’t want this to prove me wrong about the Nissan maker of cars/trucks..One good thing about it is I am still under my 3 years or 36.000 mile which will allow this problem to be corrected before out of pocket…. at this point I will give him what he asked and maybe give it 2 more weeks and take it back in and let him ride in it alone with me to see what its doing because if it was only the heater hose why isn’t the problem fix then
