Pathfinder SL 3.5L V6

Problem developed suddenly. The liftgate starts opening but after about 6" of upward movement, reverses and closes itself. One of the spindle motors is defective, according to the dealership and they are not 100% certain, saying they might also have to replace the control unit, too.
